Forever is a long time... cheer up, keep your eyes peeled for big CRTs being thrown out or sold at yard sales, start hunting on eBay for a cheap 19", and meanwhile, look at this even cheaper solution:

I'd like to build a 747 sim cockpit sometime this century. Or if someone is willing to part ways with theirs, I could try and buy it. That way all of the parts are there and all I need is a room to put it in. Grin

Although the freight charge would be astronomically high but at least I could put it together in a weeks time. (Maybe)

Ouch - I experimented with the Fresnel Lens 'solution' a while back: waste of money.

To get anything like a reasonable display you need a pretty big lens and although you can get them quite cheap (I think I paid about £30 for a framed 18"-ish one) it'll just give you distortion, degraded* screens and dissapointment. Plus the 3D effect is negligible unless you're real close. In my honest opinion you'll be better off just buying a bigger monitor, or getting a second one so you can split the instrumenet panels from the outside display which always adds to the realism.

In my experience if you go down the cheap route you'll always end up paying more coz you'll be unhappy and six months down the line you'll replace it with the option you should've saved up for in the first place.

* Fresnel lenses have loads of concentric circles moulded into them - it's how they compress a truly thick lense into a thin sheet. The problem is that you can see those cirlces just as if someone scribed them onto your monitor. You get what you pay for!

Oh boohoo poor you. Plenty of people here that do not even have a 17 inch LCD.

Crash Wink (very happy with his 15 inch LCD)
