This Weeks hotshot is:

Predator of the night!

...
Image from 9thSimplex thread: "Owl Prowl"

Well..
Simplex have done it AGAIN!!
Created a marvellous edit, with fantastic dark colours, and a atmosphere that you'll only find in world war 2!
And it's amazing with all those details, from the gasoline pouring out from the drop tank, to the sharp moon lightning the scene up, and the clouds covering parts of the moon, and even the contrails from the engines are included!! Cheesy
This one just need some little sepia, and it would've looked like a real picture! Wink Cheesy

I'm just thinking: Poor Lancaster's.. they're dead meat in a minute or two.. Wink

Cheers Theis

Thank you for this honor!

Well krigl... problem is the size.. the common screenshot with around 1600px width in the best case doesn'T make a good print in sizes over A4 unfortunately.

Not a fan of painting, but a very nice edit none-the-less

9th, why don't you describe some of the technique you used in creating this marvelous shot? I'm sure many (myself included) would appreciate understanding how this quality of image is created.
Theis, you've shown a keen eye again in selecting this screenart. Well worthy of entry into our prestigious Gallery, doesn't everyone agree?  Smiley

Hello Clipper,

well I often gave the one or another pointer in the discussions of my image posts here. Basically it's always the same selection of techniques I apply. I could add a cheap plug to the SSP tutorials but I'll see if I could make up a small walk through later on.

MAybe the steps I make as a small lsit:

- thinking of the image & composition
- taking the needed screenshots of the planes
- finding a suitable background / painting one
- cutting the planes using vector paths, cleaning them from poylgon edges, repainting rough textures
- pasting planes on background (including color corrections etc)
- adding shadows to the planes
- adding highlights and reflections
- adding addition elements like smoke trails, clouds, vapor effects etc
- merging everything on one layer

That'S it.. I often mix up some steps or work here and there at the same time. Maybe each of the points could get a description and some pointers of the "how".

Regards!
