I can't tell you how many times I have downloaded a file thinking it was an aircraft when it was only a texture file. After checking the description again the word texture was embedded inthe text enough to over look it. More and more texture files are being added to the point they are taking up whole pages or more. Other than that this is a GREAT site!!!!!!     Tongue

I've had this problem ever since I joined way back in '03.. I've just learned to deal with it, but now that you bring it up...

Strange, I never had a problem with it. Most of the time it is stated in the description, sometimes even with a link to the aircraft it is intended for. Just read before you click and 9 out of 10 times there will be no problem.

That's what I do now. If panels ahs it's own area why not textures? Aircraft area's should be for the flyable aircraft only. As in my earlier post it has got to the point where you have to search several pages just to find aircraft only.

Every time - no exception - it clearly says TEXTURES ONLY. Find me a textures only file that doesn't clearly state it at the start of the description.

Not only that - I give direct links to files required.

So : Skydiver, Craig &flyboy - please be specific with your exact problem ...  Cool ... Again we seem to have the situation of forum & site users being 2 different user groups.  Huh

What you said about downloading files to find they are only textures doesn't hold water unless you state why you haven't read the description & not only that - the start of the description .. If there are some errors - please let me know & they will be fixed but I would be surprised if you found 1 in 100 -- even then I would take a bow..

Believe me - We're here to try to make things easy for everyone. That's Simviation's core motive.  Wink

& on the point of 'flyable aircraft' - I am not aware of there being so many textures only that take up several pages all together -- please show me ...

If you would reread my post I said "it was embeded in the text". I only scan the description of the aircraft and over looked the "textures only.

Now since I have apperantly struck a nerve let me add. I don't cause problems on this site. I pay my money like the other members. All I did was ask a simple request. Since this appears to be a problem that gets your panties in a wad then you can cancel my membership. I can always spend it on another site!!!

Hi Pete.
My only criticism is the fact I have very little time to go searching through everything.
When I want just an aircraft that happens to catch my eye. I dont like having to trawl through pages of primarily textures before I actually find what is an aircraft. Its not the fact that they say they are textures or not.

No nerve struck - you just misread the tone ...  Cool

Now as for splitting things further - can you imagine the work - with all the sections - there are about 30 - they would then have to be split further into sub sections ... it would make the site a nightmare ... It just ain't going to happen on the existing site -

There will be developments on ths site this year which will make it easier to select out non texture files but  .... there will be major omissions in a search because even the best search engine is very short of desirable - take Google for example - - it misses TONS of stuff & even though it claims to sort by relevance - it doesn't.

Sorry, the tone just didn't seem to fit with the smiley faces.
I guess from our side of the site it looks like all it would take is another directory like the commercial aircraft or military aircraft named as commercial aircraft textures. But i haven't delevoped or run a web site.

All is cool. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I think it would be easier if they were in seperate sections, but at least there are always links to the original so you can make sure you have it Wink

It would indeed require a lot of reprogramming of the website. And i really dont see the problem, i just use the search button and browse through the catogories, it beats the AVSIM library IMHO(not that i dislike AVSIM!).

Well, I don't know... Roll Eyes...

Whenever I have had a peek at some aircraft, etc, that I fancy, on most sites, it states/warns  that the download Only Contains Textures, and often contains a link to the complete aircraft, etc, for the interested...
...which is nice... Smiley...!

I haven't been let-down yet... Cool...!

Paul...Always reads the download information beforehand... Wink...!

Has anyone ever made a post in a forum and then decide it was a mistake and then have post keep being added to it to constantly remind you what a dumba$$ post you made??

What I thought was a simple request has turned out to be such a post. So Pete if you would CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION and I will move on down the road.

That's the lamest reason for leaving a site I have ever seen.

I might even DELETE MY ACCOUNT as I'm too worked up. Lips Sealed

Bye bye. Is this issue really serious enough to warrant all that fuss?
