Thats right boys and girls. Last week we got our shipment of Vista Home basic, Home Professional, and Busness editions, Office 2007, and a crapload of Laptops with Vista preinstalled. We don't have Ultimate yet, but I'm guessing we will.

Here are a few teaser pics. More to come

...
...

Intresting as everything is going DVD.

Cheers

How much are vista and office 07 gonna sell for?

I saw Vista on a machine at Best Buy yesterday, and lets just say I was unimpressed.  To the average user such as myself, it seems like its only a facelift for XP.  Seriously, the only things that seemed different were the look of the menu bars and taskbar and a circle instead of a start button for the start menu.

I suppose you'll have to wait for DX10 to get the full effect of Vista.

Depends on what you want. Home Basic is going for $200 retail, Home Profesional $250. Office '07 Student and Teacher $180.

You didn't really get to play with it then. You just surfed it. When you actually start useing Vista as your main OS you will find that many things such as Networking, and Administrative tasks have become much more streamlined.

Once you get into the nitty gritty its a very pleasing OS. As for woody's comment about DX10, thats only good for the GUI, not the Kernal.

Oh, please. With vista you'll be able to do the very same things you did on XP with the same speed, only you'll need a PC at least 4 time faster and with 4 time the memory you used under XP.

Look the JUMP in hardware requests between Win2K and XP just to make your mind.

I used a Win2K on a PII 350 + 64Mb ram. And needed an at least 4 time bigger machine to make XP work similarly fast.

And in the end for what?

Do the same things.

Ah yes, DX10.

And if, just IF, I don't want to play?

Who cares. The market NEEDS your money. M$ NEEDS your money. The hardware princes NEED your money, so raise your hands up and fork, fork, fork.

This is a hold up... just under another name.

PS
Oh yes, I almost forgot. With vista you buy a lot of legalized malwares that remain there to watch you and tell the rest of the world they communicate with when and where you're taking a... toilet rest too.

What all is improved in networking?  See, for me, the 'average' user, administrative stuff isn't important.  And as far aas networking goes, our network seems to work just fine on XP.

I don't have anything against vista, I just think that it will be a while before the average user should consider upgrading without getting a new PC.  It seems to me that vista is mostly hype except to businesses and private tech company owners (such as network administrators etc)

and to be fair XP was just a face lift to windows 2000! yet everyone bought it.
but having used vista several times it is nice. although it was the beta and i only used it for general use (gaming on XP OS and work/net browsing/other stuffs on vista) i found it to have better task management, the OS never just froz, if it came close vista is very good at sorting the problem out and getting you back yo your desktop.
if you havnt actualy used vista properly you cant realy criticise it, because you have to get into it properly as an OS to truely see its potential. i havnt had chance to network 2 computer useing vista to another vista machine, but when i was connecting to my home LAN it was quiker than XP to pick it up.

so dnt knock it til you have PROPERLY tried it

Us normal folk rely in nuts like Cameron to buy the first version of things like that. Then he can suffer all the problems there are, wait days for the upgrades etc, while those who wait will have a trouble free existance.

Probably... Grin

So is DX10 out yet?

No they did both, I just gave the link for the 32bit, because thats what I found first.

As for all the bugs etc, I've been beta testing for quite a while, so I am well aware of the problems that are most present, and know how to avoide or fix them.

We also just put out our Vista laptops today. People have been flocking to them like candy.

Full version. The difference is you only get one licence, and you don't get the box. Just the CD, and the CD key. Thats why its called OEM and thats why its so cheap.

OMG!!!!

I can't wait for Vista to come out tomarrow.  DX10 is included and should GREATLY inhance FSX (even more so if you have a video card that supports DX10, I do!).

I'm gonna compare basic to pro and ultimate so I can decide what is right...

DX10 included? ROTFLMAO!!!! No, no it isn't. Also it has been found that with the current drivers, Vista sucks balls for gaming. We need to hold off for now.

If you are useing XP home now, Vista Home Premium is what you want. If your useing XP Pro, you will want to look at Ultimate. Busness is alright, but not worth the cash.

I'm not waiting for the bugs to be worked out; I can live with service packs.

I'm waiting until the  64-bit details are worked out.  From what I hear... the "Vista DX10 magic" won't happen until the O/S, hardware/drivers are all talking to each other in 64-bit chunks of data..

I wonder how much an upgrade package is. Those tend to be a bit cheaper than the new-install versions (if that is the proper term for it). I remember when we bought XP; we bought an upgrade version and it was considerably cheaper than the full-blown deal, and with the exact same functions.

Depends on what you want. It can be as cheap as $99 for Home Basic, or as expensive as $250 for Ultimate. But the problem is that you can't get a clean install with the upgrade, unlike with XP. So if you have to reformat, you have to reinstall XP, install SP2 and the updates then install Vista. Pain in the ass if you ask me.

@Giteen: Vista ships with DX9c, not DX10. However only Vista will be able to run DX10, XP will not. Vista 64 is suppost to have DX10 when it ships sometime in Q3.

Cheers
