Check this out.  A Continental Airlines Pilot died while in flight.  Can you imagine this announcement.
Good Morning, Passengers this is you Co-Pilot speaking. The Pilot just past away and I'm now your Captain.  Have a nice trip!!

This is why 2-man crews were first introduced: to provide redundancy.
As for the complexity of systems and procedures requiring two people, consider that the FO got it home by himself... after watching his captain die right there (more or less).   Shocked

Kudos!!!

A sad event, but what a great ending! I smell a TV movie...  Wink

LOL!

Actually, I would think all the FS training would do good.  If a controller tells you what headings, altitiudes, and speeds to hold, a FS pilot could probably put hem in the autopilot.  All the actual flying (assuming ILS) would be the touchdown, and youd have to really screw up to crash the plane on landing in such a way that its fatal.

FS experiance may give you a chance in a Cessna. But in an Airliner you'd be screwed, just like everyone else.

I just heard it on the news(Your link has been change there no info of it) Seems that took off from Dallas towards Mexico but the co-Pilot had to land somewhere near the border in USA side,Yeah It must been somekind of heart attack.. Embarrassed
