I have owned fs2002, combat fs3, fs2004 and had fsX since the day it came out. That does not exhaust the list of flight sim "games" I own.
I have bought  nearly every add on for fs2004(fs9) which now runs at full sliders right with around 70 fps without a stutter.
I have spent more than I should on the above -  BUT the buck as it were stops here.
I have read and tried every tweek in the book but fsX has finally done for me.  Cry
So here its comes!! AngryITS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE. ITS NOT WORTH BUYING (yet)AND IF I READ ONE MORE TIME IN THIS FORUM THAT "YOU NEED DUEL CORE" I WILL SCREAM. FsX does not use duel core. It was not designed to use duel core. No other computer game on the market REQUIRES an operating system not yet available and direct x 10 also not available.
I know some here have said fsx looks better than fs9 but that probably because they used the basic programme with no added scenery. Their choice but dont knock fs9. It works now and  Its got years left in it.
Its not a matter of upping the ram or graghics. It just doesnt do wot its says on the box.
Flame this post if you like but I will not reply. Its just too depressing for more words. Cry I get 20-30 fps with fsx. Its still rubbish. God help those putting up with less.

I run 18 locked in the city areas and 22 in the country. The only thing I do without is traffic for now (set at 10%) and I get a lvery large portion of the visuals, flight dynamics and my sim is very smooth for everything I am rendering.

No frame junkie here. I learned my lesson about watching the frame counter and learned how to balance my system with the simulator instead.

No flames. This forum is not about flaming. Sorry your expereince was not what you expected but with the hardware you are running I would say you need to get use to lower slider settings if you want frame rates in FSX. Besides.. locking is essential and anyone running 70 even in FS9 is not setting the sim up right. Its a simulation, not a high speed game. Unlimited frames or high frame lock is no way to use a simulator, fs9 or fsx. People who do that usually do not know what they are missing in visuals and flight dynamics.

I still am a single guy....

no, I am not trying to pick up a date...

I have an AMD64 3500+ with winXp pro, 4 gigs of pc3200 duo channel 4000 and a BFG 7800gt 256 pci-e  and am running pretty respectable FPS .... running the game at 1400x1050.

game looks incriedable... you can check out my screenshots for that...

sorry that the game didnt meet you satisfaction at this time...    just think though... with continued playing of 2004 by you... you will most likely get your hard earned moneys worth outta them paywares Wink

Anything more than 22 frames (even 20) is USELESS.  Ive maxd out my FS9 at 250 once, and if I unlock at the right settings I can get your 70.  But Ive locked it at 20 and tweaked it to hit that 20 in most places, and my FS9 looks incredible.

Ive had nothing but trouble with FSX settings so Ive given up, but 20-30 FPS in FSX is perfect, so don't complain.

Well, I would rather say that: "20 FPS are already confortable for flying".
The problem is that when you make 360 turns with your planes (like when you're in a thermal with your glider, or when you explore the scenery), the big scenery movements on the screen (panning around) are not fluid with only 20 FPS. This is the kind of phase where you'll se the difference between 20 and 40 FPS. Wink

I think 20fps is still good in the turns.. it's just that it drops below 20 in very brief spurts (sometimes too brief to show up on the fps counter) in those turns.. That's the visual sputter-lag you see.. On my machine, locked at 20, anyway..

Yes yes, I'm not saying 20 FPS is not good, I'm just saying that during the turns, more than 20 FPS would not be bad Wink

Ok gentlemens, I would now do it in the good old Nick_N's way  Cheesy
This is what I'm getting with a PIV 3,2 GHz, 1 Gb of RAM and a poor little 6800 GT:

...

...

...

...

...

The autogen is maxed out.
The scenery complexity is set to sparse, or normal. More when I'm out of big cities.
Texture 1m
Mesh complexity 100
Mesh resolution 19m
AI traffic is quite reduced, didn't try to increase it yet.
Land traffic is disabled.
Water reflects are disabled (High 1x).
Light Bloom is disabled.
Scenery shadows are disabled.
Thermals visualisation set to none or schematic if I need to find them.

I'm sure there are some tweaks missing on your system, and some tweaks that are not applied correctly. I would be glad to give you the advises you need, just ask Smiley

OK guys you've cheered me up. Grin I will persevere with fsx. I will eat some of Mobius's cake , try Daubes settings and learn to love it.
I know anything much above 20fps is good and above what the human eye can see but its the turns wot gets me mad Angry Stutter stutter. Saw the perfect rig at Alienware. £6200 with the 42 inch HD screen with quad 8800 graphic cards. Now I really am losing it   Wink

Flame this post if you like but I will not reply.

First off, flaming rarely occurs here at SimV and
2nd, The FSX forum is not for people to stand on their podiums and slam the software. There are other sites for this as it leads to people getting too personal about something we are trying to offer help with.

Thanks.
