I think it should be obvious that the answer will depend on your nationality. Sorry but this sort of poll is meaningless.

PS. You spelled mere incorrectly in your avatar.

The Lanc was superior in many ways in actual operation as a raider against the Axis, but I've always had a special place in my heart for the legendary B-17.
But I will say that after getting close-up and personal with an operational Lancaster last summer(thanks, CWHM!), I have to say I'm warming up to it. Grin

Meaningless poll, for sure, but I don't mind repeating that. Wink

this is going to be one of the threads in which we all agree to disagree... both of those aircraft and their crews contributed so much to the war effort.

which one is your favorite i suppose is a fair question though but i think you will find that a lot of our brothers in the UK will say "Lancaster", while a lot of us yanks will say "fort"

what an impressive spirit of cooperation between the US and the UK though! the Brits bomb all through the night and the Yanks bomb all through the day - must have been absolute hell just going to the grocery store in Germany!

Well thats narrowing it, isn't it?  I know somebody here who would nuke you for not listing the B-29 Wink

Regardless, my favorite is probably the B-25.  Not the B-17 or Lancaster

You listed Lancaster, its already half the poll!

I forgot about the Havoc, theres one in the museum by here.  Its a pretty cool little bomber.

You could argue that the Spit is as she carried bombs from time-to-time Grin
Personally I rate the Mossie as one of the most incredible, the Lanc a close second. Tis a Merlin thing Cool

Being primarily interest in naval warfare in the pacific, I'm partial to the Avenger.

Oh well.  Oh yea, the Dauntless may not be much to look at but it was a stable and very successful dive bombing platform.

Of course I answered Lancaster, brilliant as the Fortress was. The B-17's only real limitation can be said to be the bomb bay. The Lanc can be criticised for its inferior defensive armament, however this is tempered by the fact the heavy force of RAF's Bomber Command was always biased towards conducting night raids. The irony is that several Lancs configured for "special" daylight ops ended up with fewer guns!

Taking up the Ex-Pat's point, I have a very soft spot for the Blenheim, particularly the IV. Can't wait for Rick Piper's to arrive, even if it's only a Mk 1.

Arguably, the most influential bomber of the war was the DH Mosquito, whose design concepts led to the Canberra, and to the design of many postwar jet bombers...

B-24!!  Faster, heavier load, takes lots of abuse but, could be a little cranky sometimes!!

Like everyone is saying it's a meaningless poll!!
