512mb isn't really enough. When your new rig comes through it will blow CFS3 away. However capable your laptop is at handling FS9, CFS3 is hungrier and needs a more powerful machine if you really want to push it.

Whats the graphics card in the laptop?

What are your settings in CFS3 graphics wise?

And is the crash just a crash to desktop or a whole unpleasent blue screen job?

honestly, i'm not even sure what graphics card came with it. it's a dell inspiron 2650 laptop.

when it crashes it's pretty subtle. it just goes back to the desktop. the settings in CFS3 are all pretty low.

Click start, then Run. Then type in dxdiag and hit enter. Then tell us what it says about your computer. You might be better of just putting up with the crashes untill you get your new rig.

just an update. my new rig arrived and i'm loving FS9 and FSX. CFS3 just isn't for me. the flight dynamics are just too weird and unrealistic for me. plus the fact that the comands are different really bugs me. you would think most of the commands between the flight sims and combat sims would be similar.

i DO love seeing things blow up! haha. i kind of wish when you crashed in FS9 and X that they would look similar to the combat sims explosions instead of the frozen screens. it would be cool to simulate a ditch and be able to skim across the water instead of freezing.

too bad you can't combine the good and the bad from both sims!

Interesting comments since all three use the same flight package & during CFS setup you are offered the choice of using the CFS or FS key command package.

Regarding FSX you might find this of interest:

i was just giving my personal opinions on this. i didn't mean to offend you if i did. i didn't get any prompt about using the FS key commands though. where do i find that option in the settings?

i'm shocked to hear that they use the same cfg files for the aerodynamics. the use of the rudder seems very.... odd in CFS3. i'm not bashing CFS3, i just prefer the regular sims and was just giving my personal opinions.

theres something odd about it. i can't pinpoint it. maybe how the camera pans to follow the aircraft. i'm not sure. i'm just not use to it. i'll stick with FS for now though.

Skysurfer.
If you want to see a little crashing in FS, then add this into aircraft.cfg
visual_damage=1
ex:
[fltsim.0]
title=Airbus A320-200
sim=a320200
visual_damage=1
model=
Or get crashback8 on
