Is it just my set up or does everyone else find that you only get about 30 degrees of pan before the 2D cockpuit automatically switches to Virtual Cockpit?

It's really frustrating - more so when you try the Search and Resue mission and want an unrestricted view with no panels. Frankly I'm puzzled as to why anyone would think this behaviour's a step forward!!

If anyone has a fix or a work around pleeeese post here!

Thanks

Ian

This is perfectly normal for aircraft with a VC & is no different from FS2002/4. If you want clear side views it's possible to remove the complete DVC from the FSX defaults. Open Model.cfg & delete or remark out the interior= entry like this.

[models]
normal=Beech_Baron_58
// interior=Beech_Baron_58_interior

Please take back-up copies of all files before editing them.

PS. If anything this would be a backward step. IMHO

Hi Hagar, thanks for replying though I think we may be talking at cross purposes. What I mean is that my 2D panel vanishes and gets replaced by the virtual cockpit when I turn my head - very fustrating!

They say a picture paints a thousand words so I've Frapped it and put the video on my website. It's only 2mb so I'd be grateful to anyone who can tell me if it's just me or a feature of FSX.

Cheers!

Hi Ian. I think it must be you. I've never seen anything like that. Are you panning with the keyboard or HAT?

I'm using TrackIR  4 but it happens with the hat switch too. I guess it's not default behaviour then.

Think I'll un-install TrackIR to see if that's causing it.

Thanks again for the input Hagar

All the best

Ah, I suspect that's the culprit then.

Oh well, back to the drawing board. I uninstalled TrackIR, rebooted and it still happens.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else is getting this - I think you'll agree it's a pretty odd thing to do.

Cheers

I don't understand this at all. The views from the 2D cockpit are the same in FSX as previous versions of FS. There are 8 fixed views in all; forward, back, right, left & the 4 quarter views. Not smooth panned views as in the VC mode. Yours seem to be mixed up somehow.

There was a fix in FS2004. By adding:-

[CONTROLS]
pan_in_cockpit_mode=1

to fs9.cfg you could pan the 2D view using the hat switch rather than use it to select between the 8 static views.

I never tried that as I dislike 2D panels. I can't really see the point unless you're using aircraft without a DVC.  It's possible there's a similar option in FSX but I'm afraid I don't know enough about it.

You have a track IR 4 and you still use the 2D cockpit ???  Shocked Roll Eyes
2D cockpits are just completely useless once you get such a device.

Unless you happen to be an old fart with dimming eyesight like me.  Grin

Finally got the video downloaded. Gotta get a faster connection. Yes that's something unique to FSX. In FS8-FS9 you saw the VC only when the 2D panel was showing. In minipanel and no instrument mode looking right, left or back gave you unobstructed view.

Thanks Matt - I'm relieved it's an FSX feature not me. Nothing worse than a 'feature' that you can't explain and you can't fix!!

Incidently I couldn't disagree more with the other point, lol. Using the '2D' cockpit with no panels is like sticking your head out the window. Virtual cockpits are nice if you have a heavy workload but the views out there are often fantastic - why would you want to obscure most of them with panels if you're not using them???

Hehe, I guess we could argue about this forever!

My understanding from the NaturalPoint forums is the only reaons TrackIR was limited to VC in FS9 was because the flight sim software couldn't handle it.

They used the new capabilities of FSX to give their customers what they'd asked for: head-panning in all available views and I guess you can't really argue with the people who make TrackIR!!

So, ner  Tongue

Everyone has their own preferences. Having watched your vid again I can only say that panning around with the 2D panel still in view is not natural. Either there's a conflict of some sort or TrackIR isn't as fully compatible with FSX as the developers would have you believe.

Now that I agree with, lol.

In fact, I tend to switch to 2D, hide all the panels to clear the screen and use the red text at the top of the screen when I'm flying in the mountains.

I use a projector to get a nice big image so I get really good views in great scenery. You can probably see what I mean from this old vid I made for UKATC - no 2d panels but you can probably see why I like the view cleared occasionally (and yes I know it's a cr*p landing  Cheesy )

Sadly yes. I'm not proud of it. Roll Eyes

I think mini-panel view is a good compromise. (W key)
