Has anyone played this? I thought it might be good as it's done by the IL2 people. It's only $10 cdn at Best Buy and other places which makes me think it might not be so good.   Undecided

I think it's actually very good.  It's probably $10 because it's a couple of years old now. Wink

$10 CDN? So that would be what, 98¢ US?  Cheesy Grin

By itself it isnt good at all Sad

You want to have the complete install which is Forgotten Battles/Ace Expansion Pack/Pacific Fighters. This gives you many aircraft and a ton of fun.

But your best bet is to buy the new version IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.

This not only contains what i mention above but also the two most recent additions, plus new stuff, as well as the numerous HUGE patches that have been released. This is a one shot thing the complete series all in one!

I believe it is set for release in December, and i would recommend GoGamer.com  the place to purchase from Wink

I like the entire IL2/PF series. Runs rather decent on my computer with stunning visuals.

But the fact that their selling it off cheap tells you what gameplay is like. The IL2 series is a con. To get anything worth playing it seems you've got to buy and install five different games before downloading half a dozen 100mb+ patches.

Apparently there won't be any European map for the IL2 games because Oleg thinks if he releases one then no one will buy the european set sim he plans on making. It's all about money for Ubisoft.

Well that is what is nice about the 1946 pack it contains everything in the whole series so you need to buy just one disc and not bother with massive patches or separate software.
I have to agree UBI are the ones responsible for borking the whole series. Forcing release before its ready, slapping that spyware program into it etc.. UBI in general is crap but the sim itself once the install is over with can't be compared to for a WWII Combat Sim.

I know it's a personal preference thing but I think CFS3 outclasses it. For one thing the maps in the IL2 series are small compared to the whole of Europe you get in CFS and the potential for expansion is just incomparable. Plus, it's only a single purchase with one 4mb patch.

When's the first patch for 1946 due out? (Two weeks, be sure! Grin)

At least they do work on the game after it is released and try to make it better. How many patches did we get for FS9? And how many bugs do we still have?

I'm actually pleased to see a developer supporting their product after it is released while Microsoft just cut and run because you make money by releasing games not patches.

What Microsoft does is produce a sim, and if there are serious things in need of patching then it will be done. Other than that they say "Here you go. Do what you will with it. We're going to develop the next in the series now."

Where as Ubisoft release patch after patch after patch that correct some things and break others, requiring another patch. And oh, to fix that one you have to buy this expansion pack here it'll be £35 please, thank you very much suckers!

I am going to put that on shirts and make a fortune!
Grin

i would think that there will be no more patches after that release. i don't know about Battle for Britain I will probably pass that up, it appears to be much of the same we already have.
If IL2 had the ability to install third party stuff it would be amazing, but i do like it the way it is for online play. They blew it with Pacific Fighter's theme, there is so much lacking for good PTO battles, lack of proper aircraft, ships, maps etc....

Frankie- Same thing with LOMAC you will need to update it with large patches to ver 1.12 I believe. Now it is a totally different sim, don't expect to get in a jet and just take off it is pretty complex but fun to learn.
The community for LOMAC isnt as large as IL2 or CFS and you are limited to only a few various jets, but there are some good mods available.

Sounds like just the thing i'm looking for. Wink Thanks PI!
My company is giving me a $50 gift certificate for Futureshop. I'll get the 3 pack for $20 and CFS3 for $30. Smiley
(Too bad the 3 pack doesn't have Forgotten Battles instead of IL2)

In LOMAC you are only limited to a couple jets. But they are so detailed you really don't need any more. Unless you fly at 0% realism. Also, there is good variability, you can fly the Russian or American jets, which are quite different.

Also, keep in mind that there are many sims where you only get 1 jet, for example Falcon 4.0. I always prefer quality over quantity though.

Franky_4_Finger do not listen to Bias people. Pacific Fighter is a very good Sim. Not a perfect Sim but a very good Sim never the less.  Woodlouse2002 is very Bias toward CFS3 and hates the Pacific Theater. As for the best one for maps you have to go to CFS2 with its World map upgraded through its Mission Builder.

The only recommendation is if you buy it you should also buy Forgotten Batle /Ace and merge it. As for patchest you get them in their Official Website. They are supper easy to install. It come with a self installer.

CFS2 and CFS3 are very good Sims but so is this one. They are just different flavors to the same meal. Do not let anyone persaive you differntly. Buy it and Merge it and then you tell me.

It also have a Munchurian addon comming soon with more maps in it.

For 10 Dollars go cannot go wrong.

LOMAC I cannot give you a opinion since I have never flown with it.
