Todd,

That is very interesting video....thanks for the link.

It clearly shows what FSX is capable of.  Can't WAIT til I can afford hardware to run is smoothly at full levels.  Probaly 1-2 years out for me at least.

Some of those views are incredible in the detail and realism.  The quick shot of Paris literally looks like live video.  The Rio shot too is amazing.  Unfortunately it is ALL rather jerky from my point of view.  (I have high "smoothness" standards  Wink).

It is all about waiting for hardware now.  Grin  Actually....waiting for MONEY first!   Grin  Grin

best,

Hey John,

Im right there with you, patiently saving and waiting for Vista and DX10.  Waiting is a good thing, gets the kinks worked out in video cards, patches released by MS, and less time before the next version of FS comes out!  Grin
Whats funny is that Im close to getting FS9 where I want it, so now Ill have to start over, but if FSX looks like that video, in the end it will be worth it.

My rig is AMD 64 X2 (2.2Ghz) with 3GB RAM and I get nowhere near that kind of performance. Even with the weather turned off and my GT7600 graphics card using 256mb on board with an extra 500mb system RAM I get about 10fps around town and only about 18 in the cruise.

id place my money on your video card. its kind of outdated. mine is too, but it wont be long until i get the 8800 gtx

It is a bit jerky... he did say the sim ran between 4 and 10 FPS during capture.. I really think he did a great production job in presentation though.. the widescreen visual touch gave it that sort of professional DVD look even though the video was a stumbling a bit.

Sorry, it's interesting but I can't see how you can base anything on that. I found the same video posted here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szFZKuJe0J0
Note that the author (Ola Haldor Voll aka olahaldorvoll) makes a slightly different comment to the one NickN quoted. Quote:
My computer is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 2GHz, 2GB RAM and a GeForce 7800GT w/512MB RAM.

Believe me, I don't get any near that kind of framerate when playing ingame - it's just a trick when capturing and editing the video. Who would've ever wanted to see a laggy crap-video? Smiley

I think that says it all really.

I think it at least shows what FSX will be capable of.  Regardless of the stutters, that is amazing detail and almost looks real.  While it may be awhile before we realize the benefits, it will happen.  A year from now most of us will be happily flying around in FSX and will have forgotten about most of this trouble we are currently having.  Not that I approve of waiting, and not saying the sim is perfect, but I think we wil be surprised how much this new sim evolves.  Todd

The person who made it posted quite clearly the low frame rate during capture.. there was nothing hidden about that and anyone who understands video editing also knows how he made it look as smooth as he did.

I think the point he was demonstrating was that as FSX evolves we will all get to expereince more and more.

I do know this..., videos PROPERLY captured from FS9 and FSX tend to display a sharper output than the real sim and the editing software used can also enhance the clarity.

His overall approach was to show what we will be able to see as hardware evolves and the sim comes of age. I can see quite a bit and that was without DX10.

DX10 will require high LOD textures be installed. When DX10 does arrive it is not going to magically transform FSX until M$ patches everything with DX10 LOD.

Which reminds me.. allot of people think the FSX team screwed up with the size of the textures in FSX...

hmmmmmm... Roll Eyes  Grin my guess is DX10 may require a base size texture and the layout currently designed in order to be ready for patching. Anyone who messes with the textures or files may be in for a shock/reinstall when the time comes for the upgrade.
