Is there a way to take an existing aircraft, and remake the VC?  I would like to try my hand at remaking a VC, but I don't even know if this is possible.  And if anyone is interested in my progress, don't be, it will probably be years before I can figure out what to do, and I'll probably give up after ten or fifteen minutes anyway. Grin  I was just curious, thanks. Wink

With FSX, I dare say that answer may be a qualified "yes".

Since FS-X now allows for separate exterior and interior models, *technically* (because I haven't checked it out for myself)  you may be able to create a new VC completely independent of the exterior model.

Caveats:

I do not know if you can take an existing FS9 model with VC and identify a separate independent VC in FS-X.
Will FS-X choke at "seeing" two VCs?

Felix, I suggest the answer to you question is no.  In order to "redo" a VC, the exterior model (with or without a separate VC model) must be in FSX mdl format to work.  You can have an FS9 model, or an FSX model, but cannot mix the types to add/change/delete a VC.

Mobius,

Only if you have the source gMax/FSDS/3DSMax code can you change the VC of an existing FS9 model.  If the model is in the new FSX mdl format, then you can add/change/delete a VC mdl if you develop the source code, or add from another existing aircraft.

Aha!  The last sentence that I did not write was something to the effect that "it may be that the model files need to be in the new FS-X format"...

From what I gather, this all means a resounding "no" to someone with my lacking add-on development skills.

Thanks for the responses guys. Smiley

But there is a way, to do it with FS9 models, too, Ivan  Hsu, the maker of MDLC, posted a short summary once, was more than a full written paper, so it seems to be hard, but possible !
