anyone know what could be causing the plane to darken in a shadow when a light flashes on the aircraft. its basically the opposite of what it should do, it puts a shadow texture instead of lighting it up.

Your running an X800 card right? Yea, its your card's inability to run HDR apps. The effect where the plane gets brighter and darker due to changing light is a HDR effect, something your card cant render properly. There might be a patch to fix this, but it will be out much later.

Cheers
