>> Rant << Chav kicks my car - I very nearly killed him!
A little long winded, but I'll descibe as much as I can to give people the idea.
As many people know, I'm an articulated truck driver by trade, spending most of the week away in my HGV a job thats not known for its lack of stresses and usually, "pisses me right off" - Fridays are the icing on a usually nasty cake.
Ok, it (was) Friday night, I'd not long finished work (about 9pm) which has today comprised of driving around London EC1 & surrounding areas, horrendous traffic & attitude on the London city ring road (A501), topped off by some delays on the M6 tonight driving back.
As you can probably imagine, I was'nt in the best of moods ,although glad to be finished and on my way to get my daughter for the weekend.
I parked my car in Middleport, Stoke on Trent and walked towards the "Late Shop" for something or other.
To my left was a group of lads, the usual, a couple on pushbikes and the other two or so milling about.
One of them comes upto me and asks if I'd go into the shop to buy something for him / them.
I asked what it was (expecting Alcohol or Cigarettes) and to my surprise, it was both!
I elected to talk to the lads and said "no" but, explained my reasons.
After asking how old the lad talking to me was (14) I told him that at 35, the one thing I regretted most in my life was taking up smoking, not to mention the cost! I also told them how I have a very good friend who's slowly killing himself through drinking, which he is alas, and therefore I could'nt in all concience do as they asked.
I thought no more of it, crossed the road & went into the late shop.
I'm damn sure the lads concerned had'nt clocked me getting out of my car as it was parked out of their sight at the time, around the corner.
You can imagine my surprise as I rounded the same corner on my way back from the shop a couple of minutes later, to find the same group of lads round my car and one of the lads kicking my front grill / number plate!
Probably due to my apperance, I was in my work clothes, not shaved for 4 days & looking definately not the BMW owning type I suppose, the lads did'nt flinch as I walked towards them and you can imagine the surprise / shock when I picked the offending item up by the scruff of his neck (off the floor I may add! ) and promptly put him back down again with some force.
Words followed that the moderators would'nt like me for, but, you get the gist.
The thing that stopped me doing anything else was the lads age and he'd been drinking
I cannot express how angry I was, nor can I tell you how close that lad came to "getting it"
I told him in no uncertain turns to re-think his drinking before it gets him killed like it very nearly just had done. With that I got in my car and drove off.
I've been thinking about this for the remainder of this evening, not told my girlfriend about it ,although she could see something was up I'm sure.
Half of me is glad I did'nt hurt him, and believe me I could have, the other half of me really wishes I'd let fly.
Ultimately, people were about, he was'nt worth it and I must admit the shock of him realising I was the cars owner should, I'd have thought, make him think twice next time.
Or, would a spell in hospital done his re-habilitation more good?
I've not bothered to check the car for any damage (its black & its also dark!) the irony of it is, on reflection I'm not bothered about my car, more, my actions, or more to the point what I so very nearly did. I'm not a violent type but I do know my own strength, perhaps its a good job I do.
Apologies for my rant!

I have to say that I understand and sympathise. I think that you showed great restraint in your actions, though I have to say in this day and age, you could have got a knife between your ribs for your actions.
Sadly long gone are the days of the clip round the ear. You will end up in court so fast that your feet will not touch the ground. Not only that, but "little Johnny" will have the best brief in town who will argue that his actions where reasonable due to you causing him to go cold turkey by not buying him fags and booze. Not only that, but he parents are divorced (mine too, I think I will go and punch the first person that I see), he is misunderstood, has low self esteem, was acting under pier pressure, does not get the national average of pocket money, the school has let him down, the police pick on him, his social worker is overloaded and has no time for him, he has no father figure to look up to, and the world owes him a f#*king living and has not paid up yet.
You end up paying the little scroat 350 quid in compensation, have to pay court costs, get 100 hours community service, electronically tagged and placed on the child abusers list, not forgetting paying for the damage to you own car.
I think you showed great restraint.

If that were my car, i'd have kicked him in the head, and seen how he liked it. And done it once more just for the fun of it. But thats just me.
You showed great restraint. It boggles the mind how these kids just go around kicking cars.

You can sleep with another mans wife, steal his money, but never, ever screw with another mans wheels !!
Americans have it right when it comes to cars. In the UK if I enter your house and make off with 20K I will have a good chance of getting 10 years. Take your nice new car and it is community service or suspended sentence.

Well, I think you showed remarkable restraint. Well done old chap. I'd like to believe that I would be able to do the same in similar circumstances but couldn't guarantee it. You never know until it happens which I hope it never will in my case. Who knows, they might even have learned something from it. I don't believe that most of these youngsters are much different from me & my mates at their age. The main difference is that we were brought up to respect others & their property. We would never have dreamed of drinking in the street or damaging someone's car just for the sake of it.

I've done exactly the same more than once. Unfortunately I don't think my little chat made a scrap of difference as they simply waited until the next adult came along.

They got off easy... and you checked yourself at just the right moment (after frightening and embarassing the little monster!).
It is exasperating to find yourself in that situation: where you really ought to give some punk the beating of a lifetime, but of course will simply be punished for doing his parents' work for them.
Next time, I suggest telling them that not only will you hook them up with booze and smokes, you know a little place where you can get them in to enjoy all the booze and ciggies they want, with dancing girls for good measure...
then drive them out to some remote, very dark location and beat the living daylights out of them, and leave them there, preferably with no pants or shoes.
For their own good, of course.
Let me know how it works out- I'll be hiding in my car, waiting to catch the $@#%& who's been breaking into it and making a mess on a regular basis.
The latest: they did even more damage to one of the side windows on the soft-top, used a screwdriver to pry open the glove compartment (which was unlocked, BTW), pried up the center console/parking brake cover, basically turned everything inside-out... then left without taking the change in the little change-holder !! Whoever they are, they deserve a pounding just for being so damn stupid.

Remarkable restraint. I would have thought that had he got away with a broken nose then he would have been lucky.
On the other hand had you beaten the living daylights out of him would you have been traced?
Presumably the kid isn't going to go saying that he was beaten up by the owner of the car he was kicking in and also if it was dark it wouldn't be unsuprising if they wouldn't recognise you again and the chance that one of them would take down your number plate is non-existant.

I've have KO'd him, thrown him in the boot and then driven to the nearest police station. His parents would have had to come and collect him and you could have sued 'em for the damage!

That about sums it up & those kids are fully aware of it. The law is a bleedin' joke.

Ahh tis a little different in Hungary. If you catch the little sod and do that the police have a very positive view. They often handcuff the little bugger to a radiator at the station and play kick-the-spotty-herbert for the night and call the little sods parents in the morning. In some respect the police here are VERY good, however their performance in Budapest recently shows the flip side of this attitude...
Mind you if I were angry enough I'd probably kill the little maggot myself and leave the body in a ditch somewhere... especially if it was one of my students

Thanks for the reply's guys.
On relfection, its a good job I did'nt give him a kicking, I was wearing my steel toecapped boots!
Had a good look at the front of my car today, there is a slight mark where there was none before, but otherwise, no damage.
Knowing my luck, I'd have been spotted beating up him if I had done so, the local rag would have got hold of the story and turned it into "35 year old attacks 14 year old child" or similar.
Having told my girlfriend what happened, she also said I showed great self reatraint & though also, that I should think seriously about becoming a Police officer!!!!!
