Well I have spent the last week fiddling with FSX. I will say that I do see great potential and in the near future, will definitely be a real nice sim. It obviously offers allot more that FS9 at the moment. The problem with it is hardware requirements.

Most of you know my machine, how it handles and the type of screenshots I take. My average fps are set at 34, I have tons of payware installed and also have the FS-GS treatment. My flying experiences in FS9 are truly incredible with zero problems. The time I spend flying is time very well enjoyed and very immersive.

Now onto FSX...
I can certainly see the advances in this new Sim. My obvious problem like many others is "performance". Yes, I can fly around BUT, it is definitely not a "fluid" experience. My standards are very high so what may be acceptable to some of you, will definitely not be acceptable by me. So for me to say that FSX does not perform well on my machine, simply means that in order for me to get the same experience with FS9, I too need to change some of my hardware.

Here is my plan.
I will continue to fly in FS9 and enjoy the world in which I have created. If it ain't broke, why fix it? I will however SLOWLY rebuild my hardware so in the future I will be able to "move over" to FSX.
First up is I am replacing my Ram. Going from 1 gig to 2 gig.
Second will be my video card. Right now it is flawless for FS9. With DX10 around the corner, I will wait to swap over to the new card.
Third, I will need to change my processor.
With these THREE changes, I should be able to get FSX running like my FS9.

I have been speaking with Michael "Ramsa329" as we are friends and he has spent the last month speaking with people from Aces. As of last night, he said that he has finally figured out all the nuts and bolts to FSX. It does require the right hardware if you want to enjoy the new Sim.
It will come down to this basically....
If you do not have the correct hardware, don't even bother. If you come to
www.fs-gs.com for services, the first thing will be a review of your hardware. The service will not even be performed if your machine does not have the hardware to meet the demand of FSX. FSX does run nicely as per Michael, you just need the correct hardware and obviously, the correct set up!

I will keep up on all the news, add ons, tweaks, etc.. with FSX and experiment myself with it. Kind of like "building a custom car"  Wink
As Vista comes out and DX10, I will wait, listen and see what happens next. What i am doing is giving myself a good 6 months to watch what transpires and what possible patches are released, and any other thing that FSX needs to run comes along.

I have no reason to jump into FSX.
I will simply sit on the sidelines, enjoy my fs9, read and learn about all the problems, fixes and tweaks that everybody experiences. Then when Vista & DX10 comes out, I will watch, listen & experiment all over again as with these new additions, things are REALLY GOING TO CHANGE!

Hopefully in the spring, after a long hard winter, I will take my newly built custom hot rod out of the garage... and use it!

Hopefully with a big grin on my face!  Grin
Just hope My motor doesnt blow!  8)
