The first beta version of FSHost Client for FSX has been released. You can download it here. Please read the notes carefully before downloading and keep in mind this is the first beta version.

http://chocolatesoftware.com/fshost/?fshostclient.html

It should work with any FSHost Server like our Simvi Server.
Because I did not yet bother myself with FSX, I´m curious
in your experiences. Please post them here.

rot in hell Gamespy Wink

*No additional ports need to be opened. No need to
open the Gamespy ports wich are somehwere in the 6000
range. If you are new.. please take a look at this post
to see what ports are neccesary.

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Multi;action=display;num=1...

For the moment please
open both.. the FS2002 and 2004 ports.

Will the new FSX client work with FSHost version 3.0? I noticed thats what the SimV server is still running. I was just wondering since Russell came out with 3.1 not too long ago

Went online, nobody was there tho so i couldnt fully test it. But i connected fine, all commands worked fine. saw myself on the "whos online" webpage. Only dislike the "has to be in windowed mode for FSX" but hey thats life  Grin Tongue looks good, cant wait to see if it works for the Sim-V airshow  Grin

FSX and FS2002/4 Multiplayer is not compatible by default.
While FS2002/4 uses Direct Play to communicate, FSX uses
something new. Actually noone really knows how it works
cause Microsoft does not disclose any info about it.
Probabely because MS is now working together with Spyware errr... Gamespy.
But there is a way to make it work.
Quote
from Russel the developer of FSHost

""
Microsoft declared DirectPlay "deprecated" a year or two ago, and is no longer using it in any of their games.  FSX uses a completely new system for exchanging multiplayer data, but this new system will not be available to developers.  They've built a new system called SimConnect that allows developers to connect directly into the FSX program, sort of like the way FSUIPC works, if you're familiar with that program.  This is good because we have more access to the internals of the program, but bad because we can't connect directly with FSX using multiplayer packets.  We have to write a client-side program that essentially talks to FSX in single-player mode, and then relays the data up to a server like FSHost (or Vatsim, IVAO, FPI, etc.).  This is similar to programs like Vatsim's Squawkbox, but it's new for FSHost because in previous versions anyone could connect to an FSHost server without downloading special software.
"""

This is why you need an extra  software like FSHost Client for FSX.
Actually to make it work with FS2002/4 you´ll still need to open all the ports required for FS2002/4. Also you´re
Sim is Single Player Mode. So you still can use ATC and see
AI Traffic. But keep in mind you are the only one who can see the ai Traffic. So it´s suggested to turn off AI Traffic during a Multiplayer Session. It´s also not yet sure if and
how "shared cockpits" will be supported by FSHost Client.
Russel allready posted some ideas... but it only might work
in conjunction with Gamespy and FSHostClient.

cheers,

Sam, correct me if I am wrong. I, still using FS9, can fly online with anybody who uses FSX as long as they download the FSHost Client? Cool.

Reading your last posting sam, it looks like Microsoft screwed up yet one more feature of a good product (FS9) in the pursuit of more money from FSX.

I am pretty sure the "exclusivity" thing with Gamespy (aptly named....don't you think...."spy") and keeping the code closed up involves some form of potential revenue generation via the link up with Gamespy.

Unfortunately...... until someone cracks the real multiplayer coding.... it sounds like the FSHost fix in the works is a bit of a kludge.

Yet another reason to stay on fs2004.  They just keep adding up to a BIG pile for what I use the sim for.  I am becoming very disillusioned and disappointed about the new version the more I read.  Crap!

best,

FSX multiplayer isnt what I call fun. Buggy, Logs me out all the time and hates me. This may be my computer, but I liked FS9 Multiplay.... In Game communications are nice, but for Shared cockpit? I haven't gotten it yet. The only good thing about the MP, is you can see the airlons and everything else of your friends aircraft moving  Grin Gamespy.... must die from FSX, good concept, bad application!
