For the record, I did not agree with the release date and did push for further development as it was needed however what I do is not in direct connection with the development team. It was my job to evaluate the software and make recommendations to upper management who in turn did what they wanted to to, which was to release the software before xmas.
You have no idea how much pressure is being placed on release, especially since VISTA went belly up and sliced down in features in order to get it stamped to CD before the end of the year.
The plan is to watch the fourms and the feedback, make a list of the biggest issues the cry babies whine about and fix the issues in the order of importance.
Im not kidding... they knew there was going to be allot of whining and they will use it to fix what needs to be fixed because they were pushed to ship it. There was a cut-off date on the CD run which had to be met or you would still be pissing your pants waiting for it until after the first of the year while VISTA was being stamped... and nobody was going to miss a xmas release date after the $hit that went down about VISTA.
dont worry, you will get your patch.
Nick,
Finally.... the truth! THIS is exactly what the ACES Team should have been saying from the start. I ho[pe you don;t get in trouble for being so frank with this information.
To the chagrin of the "everything is wonderful" crowd, you also validate the real importance of "the whiners" (as you call us) venting their concerns in the flight sim forums.
Thanks for being so forthright.
best,

Ahhhh
So they build the product up, take your money....... and then tell you there are actually serious problems with it but that they will support you.
I take it that Nick's last post was really a joke.......
Carry on Nick, you're doing a better job than I could ever have done to make people think twice about buying this product

Serious problems? What, a bunch of messed up mesh? I bought fsX with MY own money, for 92$ USD (DAMN AUSTRALIAN PRICING!), I completly justify it and I am satisfied.

Uh, no. All you're convincing people is that people who only want London bridge mesh perfect shouldn't buy the game.

The only reason this thread got onto 17 pages is because of replies like that. Failing to see the bigger picture, and basically ridiculing the original complaint.
I'm not going to go into depth on the matter again, because this could go on for another 5 or 6 pages.

Ok everyone, now that almost all of us are done flaming each other, I like to point out a few things.
1. I think the main reason why SimViation is not included in Microsoft's list of top sites is probably because of the bad wrap that we get from members of AvSim, Flight Sim, etc. Remember, there are still people in those other forums that think we're supporting pirates and such and Microsoft probably thought it was wise to not include SimV in order to avoid a debate. Silly, isn't it?
2. I have to agree with the fact that the ACES team has done so much to convince the higher management to allow open communication with our community and to allow the release of a demo for the first time in FS history, yet all they receive in return are insults and accusations of a corporate conspiracy about such an action.
3. So far, this thread has remain stable [surprisingly] without tearing itself apart into an all-out flame war. Because a) nobody got banned yet, b)this thread has yet to be locked perminently, and c) everyone has cooled down. So it's this thread that should be stickied, but I recommend that the title be changed to something more subtle.
That's it.
But if any of you like to continue to bash on and start another arguement after this thread has cooled down, I would advise against it as you should remember who's handling your medications.

WOW... the perfect customer!
I'm a professional potter (that's actually real). I have this nice wood fired vase that I'll sell to you. It looks really nice...... or most of it does...... there's this one spot that is not so good...... but you can put that side facing the wall anyway.
Oh,....... and it only leaks water in one very small cracked spot........ and that spot is about 1/4 of the way up ....... so you can fill it with enough water to keep flowers alive. At least for a while......you'll have to watch the water level closely.
Almost forgot....... watch out for the ring it will create on the finish on a wooden table from the possible water seepage.
Yup, a first quality piece waiting here for ya'. $350.00 and it is yours.
I'm sorry but deliberately selling a known very buggy / unfinished product is not much different from that above scenario.
As a professional artist, I set aesthetic and technical standards that I adhere to to decide if a piece is marketable. It is the maintenance of those high standards that help determine the percieved quality of my work.
Each company is able to decide what those kinds of standards are for their products. The level of those standards determine the public's impression of the company.
One wonders how this decision reflects on Microsoft's reputation?
best,
......john

They could not discuss the situation. They honestly did what they could and what they thought was right to be available. They have never set up or been apart of such a public situation so they may not have handled things in the best way but they were not here or anywhere else for anything other than support and to listen.
They do not know who I am and never will because no one in the corporate office I deal with gives a hoot about forums. My job is completed with the project.
Any developer who is involved with the team will tell you the FSX team is very passionate about making the software everything it can be but they don’t need to be insulted nor do they need to be around unprofessional environments that do not support constructive type criticisms for the betterment of the project.
As for my comment about whining... I apologize if that appeared to be a jab. I was quite miffed after watching weeks of this crap going on in this forum and seeing yet another thread which serves no purpose other than to place a soapbox high enough for someone to blow off.
Posting a thread with a title.. A Total Joke
Lets see, perhaps I should download some of Rogers work and start a thread with that title myself... then proceed to take it apart bit by bit. That would probably facilitate good feelings and support for all his efforts, get him in the mood to do more and be around for support, wouldn't it
Yea... ok
Now that we all know how Roger and everyone feels about the software perhaps consideration for the people who spent many years of their life bringing it to you and will be improving it may be considered and without insults.

My response after 17 pages of this (other than the new suit comments), if you don't like FSX don't buy it, and don't support Microsoft in their development of future FS products, if you do like FSX buy it, and continue to support the only developer of quality civil aviation flight simulators*. Why are people suddenly expecting FS to be perfect?
*I left X-Plane out becuase of the way people complain about FSX, they probably wouldn't even give X-Plane a second thought, and all the other civil sims are IFR trainers that cost $300.
OUT.

Actually, we WERE relisted on there rather recently after a long absence that likely matched what you described above.
Shortly after tdragger stopped posting at SimV.... we were suddenly off the listing. Coincidence?
Who knows.

Fine, I give up.
I'm leaving fsX forum since simply put: It sucks.
Instead of wasting my time discussing crap, I'd rather play some fsX with Gunny04.
Bye.

I don’t know... If I had just come from a forum full of 'black-op' paranoid nuts who were accusing me of being a spy for MS and that I had nothing but ulterior motives for my presence, and insulting my project at every turn possible... I would definitely want to send people to that forum too.
Off to work...

One slight flaw there...
You only know whether you like or dislike a product once you've bought it.
It's a good job we do have threads like this, really. If the 'moaners' weren't pointing out these problems, how would those who don't have the game know where the strengths and weaknesses in a game are?
As an example, I've recently bought myself a new camera. I chose it based on the opinions of other users. If everyone who reviewed it was a casual photographer, who couldn't give a rats arse about whether it had terrible noise problems on high ISO settings, or had lengthy shutter lag, they wouldn't say anything bad about it. It could lead me onto purchasing the wrong camera for my needs, as all I've heard is good stuff.
Same here. I'd hate to be mislead into buying FSX straight away, if all I did was spend my entire time simming around London. I could choose to wait for a patch to come out, and maybe save a little money along the way.

Well if you can't learn to accept other people's opinions, there's no reason for you to be here.
