Uh, they did improve Flight planning. And the scenery textures are great. Again, you say they focused only on elephants from FL370, which is incorrect.
So can I create a flight plan in FSX in the same manner as I do using EURoute or Simradar?? (or even in the misty past of FlyII) "show us" the evidence.

As you say Nick N I agree that FSX was released far too early. And as for Vista who knows!! They still haven't resolved certain issues with the EU so we may not see it here for quite some time yet. My advice to anyone would be to sit tight, wait until everything Vista, DX10, FSX patches are up and running and tidy. Also by then the hardware may be more affordable!!
Just got clearance for my RTW leg from Kai Tak to Tokyo. Ci vediamo più tardi. Ciao.

The entire topic is a bit silly and I understand the frustrations... venting and causing a big stink is not going to make it look better, support will.
For the record, I did not agree with the release date and did push for further development as it was needed .............
upper management who in turn did what they wanted to to, which was to release the software before xmas.
You have no idea how much pressure is being placed on release, especially since VISTA went belly up and sliced down in features in order to get it stamped to CD before the end of the year.
The plan is to watch the fourms and the feedback, make a list of the biggest issues the cry babies whine about and fix the issues in the order of importance.
Im not kidding... they knew there was going to be allot of whining and they will use it to fix what needs to be fixed because they were pushed to ship it.
There was a cut-off date on the CD run which had to be met or you would still be pissing your pants waiting for it until after the first of the year while VISTA was being stamped... and nobody was going to miss a xmas release date after the $hit that went down about VISTA.
Thank you Nick
I am amazed that I was absolutely dead on with my summising way back in this thread and elsewhere, about pressure because of Vista going pear shaped and the desire to hit the shelves for Xmas, ready or not. .
It's a pity really that it's a 'not' because first impressions count for a lot and what could have been ground-breaking software has been let down by lots of shabby little glitches and errors many of which could have been avoided if management and development priorities had been set out correctly.
You say in one place that there's no point whining but then you say that they're looking at the forums and will fix the main things people whine about, so there's a bit of a contradiction there.
Obviously it will be worthwhile to keep throwing stuff up because if we don't it's likely not o be fixed.
This is a prime example of the 'suits' taking over on a project. The project was being built and sold on features but the suits come barging in and get it released with many of the new features either not working or not realisable for whatever reason. Not very sophisticated and not very clever eh?
The one bright spot in all of this is at least they seem to realise that the software does have a number of fundamental flaws and shortcomings and that we will get patch(es) and update(s) sooner rather than later.
Let's hope that that is the case and we're not left hanging for months and months.
I may be one of the first to throw the brickbats when there are problems (we're dealing with a big, international company here who should know better than trying to treat their market with comtempt - and remember, they were the ones who wanted 'communication') but I'm also the first to applaude when things go right.
I'm looking forward to getting the chance to do that.

Just add to what rollerball said......
I have always been one to point out that the emperor is indeed naked, fearing not that I may be called a fool.
I'm also a firm believer in the proposition that if you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
With that in mind, it would be counter productive to not point out the flaws of FSX!

Yes, and it looks as though we've been more or less vindicated.
Thanks to all the guys along the way who were rude to us, tried to beat us into submission and told us to shut up. You were just plain wrong.
Now we need to move on and use this as an opportunity to make this into the great piece of software that it was always intended to be (we know that the developers are enthusiasts or they probably wouldn't be doing it).
We need to cut the hysteria but still list what we think are the glitches, problems and priorities in a sensible way.
Maybe a new thread or even a 'sticky' that is carefully monitored and if necessary edited by a mod is called for, I don't know.
But this is probably a good time to call a halt to this thread and look to the future, not the past.

I think it's been a great thread. Exactly what these forums are for.
We don't pussy foot at Simviation. We tell it like it is & allow people to say whatever they want to say - especially criticism of MSFS - because by definition we are all fans of FS & criticism is the heart of getting things right.
It's notable that again MS has removed Simviation from the FS Community sites page even thought we are among the top 3 FS sites on the globe & clear ahead of any nearest rival.
They seem not to like us for some reason... maybe because we don't snip back unfettered criticism of their products
- It's also worth noting - it doesn't effect our usership one iota.
Again a great thread.

Does that mean that we are the bad boys of FS?

List the issues.. yes
start a thread and in it a bunch of people piss and moan, slopping insults back and forth instead of remain on a professional level, which when reviewed by 'you know who'.. will command respect and a note to put it on the 'list' instead of a chuckle and a 'next'
List the issues... this thread says the software is A TOTAL JOKE
Was that really fair of you to start a thread with a title like that Roger and then turn around and make this statement:
We need to cut the hysteria but still list what we think are the glitches, problems and priorities in a sensible way.
and then have the balls to suggest I am contradiciting myself??
That is exactly why MS will overlook forums that display emotional outbusrts and do not provide objective views.
If its 'a total joke', take it back and wait until its ready, like allot of people did for FS2002-FS2004, otherwise simply list the issues and keep all the personal crap, mud slinging and colorful metaphores used to describe the software, quiet, because that is exactly what makes MS look elsewhere for data.
They want feedback... give it to them, vent in Word or on the higest hill somewhere but keep threads like this, the content and title professional and you will see a response.
otherwise its just fodder for the water cooler during break.

No intention of replying to this on the open forum and surprised that Nick posted it.
Like I said, now's the time to move on and look to the future, not the past. The thread has come to a natural end I think.

and I have no intention answering you in PM and getting intoa PM conversation about it because that is censorship... another thing that contradicts yourself
Im sorry Roger but you have left me feeling that you have a need to piss and moan but only if you can do it on your level and if anyone dissagrees with you they are going to hear about it on a very unprofessional level.
... and then in PM tell me my attitude is American and not Brittish
Thats really low and to tell you the truth you can keep your comments. I am also finshed in this thread.

Sighhhh Ok everyone, here's the message that Nick finds so objectionable. Judge for yourself.
..........................
Nick, sorry mate but you are talking bo**ocks and I'm surprised at you.
Nobody knew that this thread would grow into what it did do. It's been a phenomenon that may never be repeated who knows.
But if you care to read the posting that started it all off, it didn't refer to the 'software' - it referred to the level of detail in one area and the heading was totally valid.
Many many members then entered along the way and the thread developed and changed. I think it did a great service because it gave loyal, paying members of the sim community a place where they could vent their frustration and anger at being sold down the river by Microsoft.
I think my own criticisms have been very fair and were very reasonably expressed. I have no control about how other people express themselves.
Nick, I'm surprised that you appear to be a member of the 'don't criticise me unless you do it in a way I like' school.
It may be the American way but it certainly ain't the British
Go in Peace
Roger
....................................
Why Nick wants to keep accusing me of all kinds of unfounded things and keeping this grinding away I do not know.

UNFOUNDED?
Your statement suggests EVRERYONE who is Brittish thinks like you and everyone who is American thinks like me... Your really something to be so bold as to make such a statement.
On top of that I have watched you make very low personal attacks on other people when you say you dont do things like that... you contradict yourself to the max and I get the impression you have some type of need to be heard more than help nurture and grow a better flight sim 10.
Actually... I’m not finished
The development team for FSX knew the condition of the software and also knew what was going to happen when it was released. Although I serious doubt you will ever hear anyone on the team admit it, they were embarrassed and wanted to do something to make sure the community felt supported during the release and transition of the software.
They pushed very hard to get approval for public contact so that type of support would be available to the community.. . and what did they get??? A bunch of idiots yelling that their presence was a ‘black-ops’ corporate marketing operation to take over the market. They were out in the forums to provide a level of support because they knew what was coming, not to brainwash anyone or any other silly crap like that. They were genuinely concerned and could not say why they were out in the forums because that would have violated their agreements with MS.
Now you can sit on it and have no one to talk to about it. They will fix things without being insulted, without having to answer a bunch of questions over and over again and that also means any tips you may get for better FSX performance will be passed down over time.
The will also ignore threads that are titled “A Total Joke”
Congrats Roger... you and alot of other people should be commeded for such a great job of protecting SimV and the sim world from the corporate black ops takeover of MS and for nuturing a better future for FSX with great thread titles and supporting posts.
Now I am finished
