Interesting. May I ask where you saw the FD2?
When I was a young lad and all that flew overhead was prop driven, it would be very hard to mistake the shape and sound of a jet powered Delta even in the eyes of a 6-7 yr old boy......especially since the setting of a world speed record had just been recently done........my mother still mentions it from time to time when I get her going about planes.....my interest stems from her taking the family to watch cadets land gliders on a nearby local field........we could hear them on the radio as they passed very low over the roadway just before touching down........
I was living in South Shields at the time......mouth of the Tyne.

LOL When I did my gliding courses we had no radio or intercom for that matter. Anyone on the airfield & in the local village could plainly hear the instructors shouting at their students without it*. It could get very entertaining at times.

You mean South Shields.
*PS. The students weren't allowed to shout back.

Come to think of it, I forgot my best flight ever! - The day I got a ride in an Auster.
I don't know how "rare" the Auster is, probably not
very
rare, but I think a flight in one could be considered somewhat rare? Rare or not, it's a lovely plane! 8)

As I mentioned earlier, rarity is relevant to you & where you are. If you've never seen one before I suppose it could be classed as rare.

It would depend on the type. Some Austers are rarer than others but there's still quite a few around. You were lucky to get a flight in one though.
PS. My idea of a rare aircraft is where there is only a limited number in existence. I've been lucky enough to see quite a few where only a very small number were ever built. Not only that but seen them in the air where they belong.

I'll check it out, I don't think there are too many flying Austers in Denmark so a quick google should do it.

Ah, that's very smart indeed. We had a brand new Terrier at the club when I worked there back in the 1960s. Had a couple of lessons in it but I must admit I didn't like it as much as the good old Tiger Moth.

yep this is what I meant by "rare" when I started this thread.
This way you could probably compare whats rare on the other side of the world, at different airports etc. as my sig states: by YSSY standards
