Iv'e seen a lot of very rare aircraft in my time. Even been lucky enough to take photos of some over the last couple of years. One rare bird that springs to mind is the Miles M.100 Student jet trainer which was built at Shoreham in the late 1950s.
Only one prototype was built & the RAF got the Jet Provost instead. This was partly due to the Student being powered by a French engine. I saw this pretty little aircraft demonstrated many times by Miles chief test pilot Duncan Macintosh & later by "Pee Wee" Judge after Miles was incorporated into Beagle Aircraft. Unfortunately all this was before I had a camera. The Student crashed at Duxford some years ago & the remains are now on display at the Museum of Berkshire Aviation, Reading.

I'll go for one that I've actually seen flying - a Yugoslavian Air Force Soko G-2A Galeb. Certainly a rarity on British soil.

Damn!
Oh and yes mictheslik you can include aircraft you've been in. You can use rare aircraft/one ofs eg: An225. Rare aircraft you've been in or a plane that is not regular at your home airport. Replica planes do not count.
some people may laugh at this but another rare one that I have seen... the 757... not a regular at YSSY.

I don't quite think I can keep with you guys here, at all. The rarest aircraft I've seen must be a Messerschmitt Me-108 'Taifun' or perhaps the Saab B-17 Dive bomber.

The rarest I've seen is probably a B-25J (Panchito)... Only been to one airshow, and that's probably the oldest thing that was flying there
The rarest thing I've been in would be an A320
4GB DDR2 PC5300; 3.2GHz Pentium D 940, Nvidia 9800GT 1024MB DDR3, Windows XP Pro SP3

All of that list, including both types of DH Comet!
Grovesnor House
would have to be the rarest, being not only the only one in the world, but also airworthy at the time. Also things such as the Hawker Hind, Tomtit, Avro Tutor, 504, RAF SE5 and then the Blackburn Monoplane, Bleriot XI and Deperdussin.
It was also a privilege to be at North Weald in 1996, with two Me109s and the BBMF in a unique formation.

Unfortunately, she had a belly landing a few years ago and is waiting restoration (again)
It appears to be progressing slowly. The "good thing" to come out of the crash, is that we will have the opportunity to see a short nosed Blenheim in the air again.

I've seen the original Wright Flyer. 8) I win!
Actually, I wouldn't count museum pieces. The most unique flying aircraft that I have seen is probably the P-38 named Glacier Girl. I don't think that there are many P-38s flying anymore, possibly only one, not sure.

Without looking up an accurate figure, I'd say there are about 5 or 6 still airworthy.

Can modern military types really be considered rare? I mean, people have listed C130's and Apache's. Sure you may not get many where you live but in some places their ten a penny.
I mean, earlier this year I saw nine Apache's in loose formation and a few hours later I saw them again going the other way. Hardly rare.

Guess I was misinformed.
Oh well, it's still very rare.
P.S. How could I forget, I also had the privilege of seeing Space Ship One fly before it went to the Smithsonian. Though, she was strapped to White Knight at the time.
