Well thirty three years ago Concorde did its first long-haul flight from Paris to New York and slashed the Atlantic crossing time by 50%. I still miss her Cry

Concordes were rather beautiful! I miss them as well, they should make a newer, more fuel efficient one (is that possible going that fast) Cheers, Gunny

Concorde (with an E) was always referred to in the singular. I think this is unique for an aircraft of any type. There have been several proposals for a replacement or improved SST but so far these have proved either too expensive or impractical. I think Concorde will remain unique.

Technically, wouldn't the Dakar-Rio leg of the Paris to Rio de Janeiro original routing be the Concorde's first transatlantic crossing?

Since I could have never afforded a Concorde flight, I don't care at all if she's flying or not.
Honestly, there are a lot better and efficient aircraft out there.

If anyone has a few minutes, you can log onto Deltava.org and sign up. Then go into the fleet library and there pilots can download a pretty sweet concorde. It comes in a few Air France Textures. Also they have a 757-200 Delta Song which is rare on SimV.

I've noticed.   Wink

A few years ago, Boeing mused with an idea of designing an air transport that used hyper cruise engines.  It didn't get very far.  Maybe it has something to do with people STILL not wanting to hear sonic booms on a regular basis.

More likely it was judged to be far too expensive. Concorde was used mainly for transatlantic travel so sonic booms over the ocean were never a problem. I think that started out as propaganda used against it by its opponents & is obviously still believed today.

Well, if Concorde was intended to be used for transatlantic flight and ONLY translatlantic flight, what killed it then?

Imagine though if the Tu-144, the Concorde and the Boeing 2707 were all still flying at the same time. It would almost feel like the Jetsons.

That also couls mean that there could be a crash every two months.

I would like to see the concorde fly again too, but it was just too expensive to orperate so they had to shut it down. When it comes to translantic flying, only very whealthy people would fly the concorde, most people use either the A-340, 767-300ER,400ER or any type of 747.
