I downloaded and installed the Flight Simulator X demo. However, when I try to play it gives me a error message saying "Flight Simulator was unable to load some program files and will now exit. Please reinstall Flight Simulator to restore or repair the program installation." What does this mean?? Thanks.

I have no idea. Did you try reinstalling it as suggested?

Doug, did you say it worked OK for you with only SP1 installed? I notice L1011 only has SP1 in his sig....

Ah, that might explain it. I suspect I already had SP2 installed without my knowledge. I got no error messages when installing the FSX Demo.

I downloaded SP2 but didn't install it until after trying FSX, if that makes any sense. Roll Eyes Wink

I haven't updated my sig,but I do have SP2 installed. So,I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Hopefully, when I reinstall Windows XP Pro on my new 500GB hard drive...(where I'm eventually going to install FSX).. I can get this fixed. I'll update you on my progress as it happens.

Me either.

I figure that if anyone knows Windows...it is the folks that DEVELOPED Windows.  If they say you really ought to update the system files ....and you have made the decision to RUN Windows on your machine... then update the darn system to what Microsoft says it should be.

Now I know that a lot of folks seem to "hate" good ole' Uncle Bill...... but you know what... I don't see most of them heading off to install Linux or buying a Mac.  Wink

I've had SPII and all the MS updates set up to autoinstall forever...... and things run as good as they EVER run in Windows.

I think a lot of people don't know how to configure the XP firewall that comes with SPII for online use........ and that is the crux of the matter.

best,

....john

Y'know, I've never understood this adamant refusal to install SP2 because a reason has never been given but it must be a good one. When it first came out, there were "warnings" all over the place against installing it. "It will fry your CPU". "It will corrupt your HD file table". "It's a CIA worm." "It'll cause your hair to fall out."(Okay, Okay, that's exaggeration but you get my meaning). As someone posted, the authors of Windows XP should know what they're doing.  Oh, yes..... I believe by not having SP2, you are denying yourself the security updates. Bad news.

No SP2, no FSX. You lose.

Falcon,

What's your opinion of the EN7800GT? Does it seem to stay cool enough ? I just had the blower motor go into "howl" mode on my 6800GT and it's only 8 Mo. old!!.

I have an AMD64 4000+ on an AN8-SLI. I recently had to pull the fan off the CPU heatsinkand put a drop of oil under the mfr's label. But, can't do that with the 6800 because of the way it's made.

I have it in a large case with large input and output fans.

Thanks, Cal

After a day the only change that I notice with the SP2 installed is that my computers boots in about five more seconds than with the SP1 Roll Eyes.

I actually have a 7800GTX and yes I have no problems with its temps. In the same time I have to admit that I have two 120mm fans on my case Tongue. The only thing that I regret is that I didn't buy a better CPU. I have no sound card so my fps aren't that good, the gain of fps in FS with the sound turned off is not negligible, I get about 5-6 more fps. Besides I believe that the 7800GTX needs a better CPU to operate at its maximum. Your 4000+ should be okay for such a card. If you need more help just post in the hardware forum Wink.

Cheers
