I got an email from FSGenesis today telling me they have the entire world available on DVD. They tell me I get a copy of World Buffer Terrain if I buy even one of the DVDs that come in the set. I know what the world is and I know what terrain is. What exactly is the "buffer" of which they speak?

Buffer terrain is a lower resolution mesh that is displayed to smooth out the transition from "far away" to "near the plane".  It smooths out the transitions as the scenery draws as the plane flys along.  I have it installed and it helped cut down on my "stutters" and the annoying "popping" of terrain into "focus".

I have just about the whole FSGenesiss mesh line installed (done with a membership before the DVDs became available).

best,

OK; that makes sense and sounds like a good idea. There is a recent thread elsewhere (Scenery "building" itself, by Sullyvan in the FS2004 Forum) about the terrain snapping into focus as it drew near. Maybe it would be a good idea for Sullyvan to get this if he really wants to smooth out the terrian redraws as he flutters merrily along...
