Object libraries and GMAX created objects (Read 292 times)

hi,

I have a quick question (as always...)

Lets say, I just created an object in GMAX, and added it to a scenery i was going to release to the public using either Basic XML or EZ-scenery.
Would i have to include an object library (containing the added objects made in GMAX) in the scenery i was releasing for the users to be able to see the added object in FS? Or is there another way to add them into a .bgl file to include them in the scenery or something? Tongue

And, if i added it in EZ-scenery, would others be able to use the included object library for themselves in their own scenery?? i really don;t want this to happen  Embarrassed

thanx for any help

Well, I would recommend not using EZ-Scenery to do this, especially if you don't want anyone using this thingie in their own creations.  If I were you, I would use XML to BGL stuff provided by MS in their scenery SDK.  This will enable you to simply drop it in a folder and include it like a regular scenery item you could download.

Read all the Microsoft SDKs regarding the development of scenery objects. Here are the following that you need if you want Gmax objects to be exported directly to FS9 without having to provide the basic object in Gmax.

Makemdl SDK
BGLComp SDK
Gmax Game Pack SDK

They can all be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_downloads_sdk.asp

Please note that you'll have to read the instructions carefully if you want the process to be successful. You should know this as all addon developers [whether for aircraft or scenery development] normally read pages upon pages of instructions.

One more thing, when you're making an object and you don't want autogen to get in the way, read this tutorial that teaches you how to create an effective XML-based exclusion zone.

http://www.fs2004.com/kb/idx.php/0/036/article/Creating-an-Exclude-Zone.html

This method also allows you to compile multiple exclusion zones into one BGL.

Awsome, Thanks! Smiley

I wonder though,
Does "Library Creator XML" create an object library not reconizable by EZ-scenery or anything else, does it just make a Library like what i am talking about at the top of this thread?

It can be found here:

thanx!

Once you release your "library", there really is no way to "protect" it. Anyone with a half way working knowledge of FS design tools can use it as it is or rip it apart and make use of the objects it contains in their own libraries. I wouldn't waste a lot of time worring about it and realize that much relies on the honor system, those that follow it will and those that don't, won't
