Quick question - can FS9 simulate a water drop, like a tanker dumping water on a forest fire?

Oh I don't expect it to put out a fire!  I just don't know how to create the water dropping effect.  Can you tell us how it's done, or point out the helicopter in question?

Should visit here, http://www.rareflightsimulations.co.uk/page_1152196369937.html

the effect is,

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=0, 12, 0, fx_water_dump
smoke.1=0, 8, 4, fx_water_dump
smoke.2=0, 8, -4, fx_water_dump

But dunno if that will work, considering I'm not sure if "fx_water_dump" is already installed. Grin

Try to ask the team behind the Erickson S-64E Aircrane from hovercontrol.com
It has waterdrop effects.

I don't remember which one, but I flew an aircraft in the sim that had this effect.
It must be mentionned that this was only a visual effect. It has no effect at all on the plane, you will not feel the loss of weight or anything.

This was long ago, in FS9, but long ago. Was there any new effect that would simulate weight effects as well in the meanwhile ?

Why go elsewhere? You can take the water drop effect off the DHC6 here at SimV? http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props104.htm

There is a good cl-415 here at simviation that jumps into the sky when you unload the water and it will only refill on the ground or water. make sure you get the latest one though.

Souinds like a great gauge.  If so.....you ought to be able to "lift" the water dump gauge out of that aircraft and install it in another aircraft (remember that this is for PERSONAL use only... not for installing in planes you distribute...... without getting permission).

One "caveat" that I can think of is to explore if the coding of the XML gauge used calculates the weight difference SPECIFICALLY for THAT one plane....instead of just reducing the weight of the plane it is installed into by X amount.

You also might have to take load station placement into accont for positioning the "water".  Otherwise... the plane might fly funny....or not at all.

best,
