My FSX Carrier AI Scenery. (Read 633 times)

Need a hand please guys. I've already had a report that someone's had a problem with this scenery.

In FS2004 there was a problem with water climbing up the sides of carriers and you had to include special 'flattens' as I explained how to do in the AI Traffic forum. With the tests I've done on 2 separate computers with this scenery I found a flatten was not necessary.

However, the guy who contacted me said he'd had a similar problem to FS2004 (which I've only seen in FSX with a 3rd party addon carrier rather than the default library carrier for people who understand what I'm talking about) except in FSX rather than having water climbing up the side, FSX makes land first  Smiley and has that climbing up to the carrier deck.

Anyone else found that please?

Don't worry, it won't damage your PC or graphics but I'd like to know. In the meantine I'll make a flatten which will probably solve the problem (this is FSX remember) if anyone does have it.

Just in case, as from the one report I've received it seems under certain as yet unknown circumstances a problem can occur, I've added the flatten to a modified Zip which I've now uploaded to SimV. So if anyone has downloaded the original and has a problem either contact me and I'll let you have the fix, or soon you'll be able to download the replacement Zip with the flatten and amended install instructions.

OK - that's the same problem. Wonder why the heck it was OK on my 2 PCs  ???

Anyway the fix will correct it - Splash if you pm me your email I'll send over the little file you need with instructions.

It's not a big deal - obviously there's still the old FS2004 water mesh problem. Luckily we know how to deal with it.

OK Ed - fix has been emailed to you  Wink

Is that steam rising from the catapults on the flight deck?

When will you release that fix for everyone to use?

Congratulations on being the first to create something for FSX officially (even though it is just the demo).

I did notice that when I activated the scenery, it shows up in the AddOn Scenery in the list, and does not show up in the list as a seperate entity.... dont know if that was something I did or not, but it works.  I guess since the Ocean Flattens file is still above the carrier file even tho it is within the AddOn Scenery file?
Thought I would let you know that... here are pics on how it shows on my copy

Yeah Ed, the Ocean Flattens should be like any other addon scenery - it should appear in your scenery library list with that name at a level above the carrier but in your case as it's working, no worries.

Answeering the other question, the fix has been uploaded as a complete replacement Zip file. The original is still on download so anyone who's interested in the scenery, I'd wait a day so you get the latest version.

Sorry about this hassle - but we're entering new territory here  Wink

This is the evidence that FSX will simulate weapons. This pictures obviously shows the effect of the Dirt Bomb, directly imported from Scorched Earth  Grin

Thanks for that Pete.

After publishing the carrier package I had several people contact me about cable trapping. Well obviously at the time of writing we can't do that. We need Pete Dowson to make us a new FSX FSUIPC for a start and then we need guys who are cleverer than me to work out how to use the data generated to create traps and catapults.

But there is an alternative which is still pretty good fun. As you know, the FSX carrier is on the small side and although anyone can land planes like the FSX Trike and the FS2004 Cub on it, anything much bigger is a bit tricky to say the least.

The FS2004 Grand Caravan flies great in FSX so what I've done is modify it a wee bit. I've given it bigger flaps which obviously have quite a bit more drag. I've also beefed the brakes up a bit and given it a wee bit more reverse thrust. This baby you can land on the FSX carrier ........ if you're good enough!

If you're interested in trying, package just uploaded here at SimV.

Have fun  Wink

BTW - thanks Ed and Vince for trying it out and putting those pics up. Just the feedback I needed to get it right.
