What would I have to change, so my paint has the flat/at effect?

Perhaps, equally important . . . how did you make out changing the pilot's face?

We didn't hear any more about your efforts in this regard in a previous thread.

Don't save as DXT-3 and you won't get that shinyness that DXT-3 adds to the surface. As for  the face, paint a solid colour background around the face and make that background transparent and copy and paste the face onto the face in the texture. You'll need to resize the new face first to match the old one. Then Robert is your father's brother. Wink

Gee, and I thought Bob was your uncle. Just shows how you can misjudge a man.  Grin
P.S. Actually it's the intensity (darkness of grey) of the alpha channel which gives texture shine; conversely, a white alpha renders the least shine

Yes, but you need DXT-3 to have an alpha channel, so you're both right.

I found out the hard way when i forgot to convert my normal bmp ro DXT3. The finish looked dull and flat, like in the older sims.

If you want to have a cheap appereance lol, the model properties while in a design program also play a role in dull repaints. Having a fully reflective model, which you might be trying to repaint will never achieve a dull flat look, you just have to save the file wihout a Alpha Channel. Grin

"Yes, but you need DXT-3 to have an alpha channel . . . "

Not according to Martin Wright
, author of DXTbmp:

...

Unless a specific model and file-format for the texture-in-question is specified, alpha channels, reflections and transparencies in FS9 could be argued ad infinitum.

P.S. Martin doesn't have any references to "Rat plane"
