Smoothing out the bumps (Read 487 times)

Hey fellow repainters!  Looking for a little help.  When I do a repaint I paint in...well...paint as thats all I have.  IT works pretty well, but it strugles to make smooth curves (not only does it strugle, it cant!)  I was really hoping to make this repaint look professional as its for such a great addon and as it is I dont feel that its good enough for release

I was wondering if someone could help me smooth out the bumps.  It would be greatly appreciated and I will give you full credit upon release

Here is what it looks like
...

If you are interested in helping me just send me a PM with your email and Ill send you the file!

Thanks in advance,
Jake

Hi Jake. Why not give Pixia a shot? http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/
It should have all the advanced features you need for this job. The only problem being that you have to learn how to use it. I can't help much there but I know other repainters on this forum use it.

I'm not sure I see any issues with that repaint.  It's very good!  Show me some closeups of what you mean, please.

If you look at the yellow line on the fuselage, its very pixelated.  I know its hard to see in the screenshot, but in the sim its pretty bad

Ive tried pixia and I just cant figure it out, and I do like using paint as its very simple and yet it can do plenty.

If you really want to continue using Paint, try working on a bigger image.  If your original bitmap is 1024x1024, enlarge it to 2048x2048 or even 3072x3072.  Do all your repainting, then shrink it back down (Ctrl-W) to the original size again.  This softens all the pixelation on lettering and curved lines.

Make sure you keep a copy of the enlarged file as well, in case you want to go back and make more changes.

Hey I use MS Paint to do my repaints too and have obviously had the same problem, I have never thought about resizing before and after, that is a great idea! If ou are creating text using the text tool, if you get it where you want it without leaving the text tool, it will automatically adjust its edges for what colour/s it is above.. if that makes sense. And the few tmes my bumpy edges have really stood out, I just took a few minutes to manually soften it with different shades, pixel by pixel. I am going to try Pixia but I feel unless its incredible Im gonna stick with my MSPaint Cheesy It may be basic but it does the job Cheesy

Keep an eye open for cover disks on magazines, they give away a whole bunch of graphics software.  But whatever you end up driving, you MUST take at least a couple of evenings to learn it and figure out how it works, what its limitations are.

Dogwaffle, very good free program, takes about half an hour to learn basic stuff, but then you find heaps of awesome features. I use it along with paint to make my skins.
