Yeah, the FX series is terrible value for the money. It overclocks poorly and a Conroe that costs half the money beats it out of the box.

I don't know why AMD didn't cut the price of the FX in half. Maybe they know only morons will buy it so they might as well keep the price the same.

The 5000+ overclcoked beats the FX62.. for less than 1/2 the price.

Also, the lastest real world tests are showing conroe is not what it was being hyped up to be.

Yeah, but in them tests it's GPU limited, I could chuck my Prescott and it would probably get slightly less Tongue Do a 6600GT review comparing the AMD fx-62 and a 3.4ghz Pentium 4 and I doubt there'll be a diferance.

Still better than AMD's preformance though, and its still by a margin.

Cheers

Still not worth upgrading my San Diego rig though, not until I need to anyway, and then I can always pick up a cheap AMD dual core if I need to in a pinch.

But then I'm a tightwad  Wink

I reckon the video system is far more important at present anyway than CPU speed. I mean, a switch to Conroe would be nice, I just can't justify it at the moment.

and there you have it.... unless your running less than a good 939 system with a decent video card, upgrading is money DOWN THE DRAIN

When the newer hardware arrives next year having a conroe is not going to improve DX10  LOL!!

AMD knows that

Which is why they put thier investment into what WILL make it run better.

Like what? K8L is only K8 with minor upgrades, and two more cores. Everything AMTi has said they are doing is 4 x 4 (which will suck harder than ViiV) and Torrenza. Oh yea, they are also trying to work on a project that will replace PCI-E x16.

Intel on the other hand is releasing Kentsfield at the same time as K8L and Torrenza. Its also planning to release a new core every two years. Now how AMTi plans to keep up with this I have no idea, they just lack the funds.

Ive said it before and I will say it again. AMD bought ATi because they knew that if they didn't merge with another company they would go under due to Intels massive wake.

Cheers
Cameron

PS: I also find it funny that you all mock me for being an Intel fanboy when you all lash out against me when I bash AMTi

If Intel or AMD had no competition I think the consumer would lose. I like having both companies around.

Of course they would, if one was to go bankrupt the other would raise their prices to insanely high levels.

Cam... I cant believe you would make such a statement when AMD spent BILLIONS... not millions for ATI

A company with that much capitol is not in any danger or coming any where near  going under.

Now come-on  Grin

But when I look at Intel's worth vs AMD's worth, and the fact that they had to borrow money to make the transaction....... well draw your own conclusion.

No no, those are server / workstations. The idea is for a media center or gaming rig. Useing say two FX-34s, and two 7905GX2s to creat a insane graphical expirence.

So in short 4x4 is suppost to be a gaming /  media workstation, not a rendering / serving one. Basically take VIIV and expand it. In my personal oppinion there just isn't enough market to make it worth it.

Borrowing is how it works. You don’t take your entire worth and liquidate it for a buyout. Even if you’re worth 500 billion you use the system so you retain your assets. It has less risk that way too. There are major tax advantages to borrowing that kind of money.

Intel would borrow to buy another company as well.. they are not stupid.  Geeze

You have allot to learn about business there kiddo.
