Okay, I have downloaded the f*#@#$ file 5 f*#@#$ times now. (yeah, that would be about 3 GB downloaded). And EVERY F*#@#$ time it says the f*#@#$ file is corrupt!

I tried with a download manager, withOUT a download manager, with a segmented download, withOUT a segmented download an nothing...

I tried from different download sites (Microsoft, file planet, file front and game sheller) and got the same friggin result. WTF? ? ? ? ? ? ?

I tried a zip recovery utility, and it says "incompatible file" (or some crap like that)

Any ideas what might be the problem?. I´m running on WIN XP64. Tried reverting to XP (i have it installed on the same PC) and nothing...

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent my frustration... feeling a bit less pissed of now...  Sad

A mate of mine phoned this evening, who is an I.T. geek.

He said it might sound stupid but you should eliminate anyway:: "turn off any anti-virus apps because these will be running through the downloaded file, possibly even as you are downloading it. It could be that during the check something is either getting corrupted or simply trashed altogether."

You may not have anti-virus, but if so please eliminate the possibility.

In any event, he says the corruption message IS genuine, the error message itself is NOT a bug. The download really is corrupted.

Regards
Jasper

x_jasper:

I downloaded once, and didn't even turn off my antivirus program (MacAffee).  Install went on without a hitch.

My FS-X problems are graphics related, the result of an old(er) ATI Radeon 9000 /64Meg card, with the latest ATI drivers.

Same here felix,

one download-- nothing corrupted.

Anti-virus progs either break things or they don't. This is why some installations tell you to disable.

STOP!!!--------- Shocked

My two lads each just downloaded the demo, one has Mcaffee, the other an older Norton.

The Norton screwed it !!  Mcaffee went ok.

Apparantly either could mess it up, but it does show these progs can cause problems.

That's funny, I have "Internet Security" from Norton and there were no problems at all when I downloaded and installed the demo. Grin

This is what have:

1. Internet Security 2003 with Firewall [I know, it's old, but the updates are good]

2. Zone Labs' Zone Alarm

So basically, I have two seperate firewalls and the download went without a hitch through both of them. I'm not saying that you're wrong. I'm just pointing out the fact that I am amongst the lucky few. Grin

Bit of a lucky draw lol

Personally I don't use anti-virus, I don't like the drop in performance.

I think it's anti-virus software that causes the problem.

Is it really a good idea to run a comp w/o anti-virus?

Yes, as long as you have at least one firewall running for protection while you are connected to the internet.

Yep, as long as you are not explicitely surfing the internet, downloading stuff etc... you can perfectly switch off your anti-virus while you play, it will save a lot of ressources. But:
- never, NEVER turn off the firewall, unless you are physically disconnected from any network
- turn your AV on again after you have finished playing.

Try this:

Ok guys the problem is not on the Setup program (The FSX demo) the problem lies on the microsoft Windows Installer , it seems to create a conflict since the demo comes with it.

Second go to Control panel then Add/remove programs and find the Windows Instaler or Windows Instaler KB893803 update, uninstall it. It will ask u that some programs would stop working if you uninstall it don't worry uninstall it. Now go and execute the FSX setup file (Setup.exe), the FSX setup will install the Windows Intaller this will take a couple of minutes then it will ask you to reboot your PC. Reboot it and as soon as windows start back the FSX DEMO install wizard will start automaticly and the FSX will be installed.

Let me know if my resolution didn't solved the issue.  It did for me.

There's another solution to this problem, I'm trying to find it. As soon as i get I will post it.

I downloaded the file from microsoft and on installation it said I had a corrupt CAB file.

I think I had the file on my 'junk' drive. I just moved it to 'my documents' on my OS drive, rebooted and run it after that and it installed fine?? No idea why it did what it did in the first place though.

Only go on to servers you trust without anti-virus enabled if playing online too.  You could get yourself an anti-virus program that has a very small hit on system resources like NOD32 or something too if you wish it to be running all the time.

Tried it all...  Even messing with msconfig (thanks for the info, wagner!), but nothing worked. In fact, I downloaded it AGAIN today to give it a last try... I don´t think it´s a problem with the connection, since it´s the only friggin file that gives me trouble, and I have downloaded some big files in the past....

Nothing seems to work with that file... well, I guess that I´m sticking with FS9. After all, I don´t think my PC has what it takes to run FSX...  Sad

Still, I would have loved to give it a try...

thanks all for the info though.... If anybody has another idea, I´d love to hear it.

cheers.

I had that issue once, found out I had a bad router. Disconnected the router, everythign worked good. Reconnected, gone corrupt. I reflashed bios's, tried different settings, nothign would fix it. So I won't be buying any Linksys in the near future (this is why I have a D-Link router now). You may look into that.

I have a Belkin wireless router that allows three of my family's computer to link in a wireless network. The demo managed to download perfectly through that.

That's not the point. The point is is that my router failed. It used to work fine, but it malfunctioned and does not any longer. I'm just saying that this may have happened to his once perfectly working unit also. One day your Belkin may fail too....
