It's an old satellite image. I think there's one there still though. On a grass verge or something.

Its old. The higher resolution imagery of west London on Google earth now, is older than the stuff it replaced! Grin

Checked Newark Air Museum yesterday. There's an entire section of it missing, including a display hangar!

It's not as recent as you may think...

I reckon the UK hi definition coverage probably was taken between 2002ish and 2005. The earliest date for reasons such as that shown on this thread, and other things which existed then but soon disappeared, and the later date because my car is shown outside my old house, which I lived in from 2004 to 2005...

Also, what year did Merlins enter RAF service? There's certainly none at Benson, and it seems to be occupied by Bulldogs (I could be mistaken). Have a look yourself. Wink

Positive. Bear in mind I'm looking with Windows Live Local and not Google Earth. Though, it's good to use the two in conjunction, as both cover different areas to the other in a lot of cases.

That explains it then... and they are Bulldogs - replaced in 1999 by the Tutor, a couple of years before the Merlin arrived... Smiley

I think there's an interesting repeat effect in that photo - I suspect we are only looking at two Bulldogs. Interesting aircraft in the bottom right corner (the blue one). Answers on a postcard please - I think I have a sneaking suspicion what it is - and it dates the photo to the mid 90s...

Looks like some sort of tail dragger, but the blue colour scheme has me stumped.

An interestingly painted Pioneer perhaps?
