Can someone explain to me why it stipulates SP2. I went to all the trouble of installing it after trying the demo & it doesn't seem to make a blind bit of difference.
Another thing. What's all this about a time limit on the demo? Does that mean it comes to an abrupt halt after a certain length of time, never to work again? I've read the Readme, the EULA & the download instructions carefully & can't find any mention of it.

After 30 mins. of non-stop flying, a message will pop-up saying; Your 30 mins. has expired, and that flightsim will close. - Or something like that.
What I do is note the time I take off, and 28 minutes later save the flight, end the flight, and load the flight, and once again, note the time.. (so on)...

Deluxe - the relative price difference between the two makes little difference - if it was £20 or £25 then maybe it'd be more significant, but £10 was what you used to be able to get a refund of when upgrading from a previous version of FS!

yeah... most peeple will spend more than the price of the game on payware anyway so the extra £10 at the beginning doesn't really make that much of a difference.

Doug,
I tried to install the demo without having SP2 and got a dialogue box saying that I needed SP2 before I could continue.
Perhaps you got enough automatic updates without needing to formally install SP2?

For Sure, I'm getting the Deluxe for FS X. I checked my rig and can handle it, but i think i need a better video graphic card... I have 80 GB of hard drive.
I have noticed in the list of the airplanes the Boeing 777 is not included.. is it a mistake or Deluxe only will have it?

Neither am i so i don't have much payware (real air spit, just flight flying club (gift for my birthday) and roads and rivers of europe)
But if your going to buy ANY payware you might as well spend an extra £10 and get a lot more out of the default sim.

The whole point of the deluxe edition is for microsoft to make extra money.
14 GB of space isn't bad conisdering it has scenery for the whole world. For X-Plane the global scenery alone is 60 GB.

So what? They're giving us the SDKs and that user-controlled Tower function for MP in the deluxe. That's something you'll never see in the standard version. The Standard was made for those who don't have deep enough pockets.

Not everyone wants a SDK. By releasing two versions they appeal to more people and make more money. If they calculated that releasing one version would make more money they would release one version.
I suppose it is a good deal if you want to make aircraft or scenery or whatever. Extra $15 for an SDK. Third party software would cost a lot more.

The deluxe ships with those additionnal things:
- the grumman goose
- two or three planes with the garmin GPS system (those planes are also in the normal FSX, but with the GPS)
- the tower controller feature (to be an ATC controller yourself)
- the SDK (to make addons)
It think that's it... if I forgot anything, someone will correct soon.
Got bloom ?
Got mountains ?
Got damage ?

So it sounds like deluxe is for the real enthusiast that want to create their own FSWorld.
Sounds like the regular FSX is for me! I just like to fly and immerse myself in the beauty of the game. (yea that sounded not right) But there is nothing more relaxing that watching an FS sunrise or sunset!

You know, I'm suprised to see that the age-old question of "what's the difference between standard and deluxe" hasen't died at all compared to many other questions. In the FS2004.com forums, there has been a sticky for the past month that covers the difference between the two and people still ask the same question [over and over again].
It's like the age old question of why the chicken crossed the road.

The way I figure it what the hey the graphics aren't going to be any different and i don't even fly aircrafts designed by Microsoft. Infact the only FS9 aircraft I enjoyed flying was the LearJet. All the other aircrafts sucked compared to the freeware addons!

Can any "serious" simmer even venture to make a case for not getting the delux?.
The small difference in price is not even an issue considering the overall monitary outlay needed to run FS properly, both the hardware an add-ons.
