i don't know if it is just me, but for a while back ive noticed a drop of content in the site, i remember a few years back there was a notice in the upload page preventing uploaders from publishing fictional/VA/"what-if's" so SimV could be kept more organized...i like SimV because it is easier to find stuff here-unlike other sites-(no names mentioned) SimV has better organized sections and such...all in all, lately ive noticed (again, i dont know if its me alone) an increase on what if's and fictional stuff being uploaded...it is starting to steer me away from the download section Sad

also, the pop-up issue (i still get pop-ups) and file accesibility is getting annoying. since the pop-up download window was introduced on the free site ive had a real hard time trying to download files (latest was the new DC3 package) i get a 404 after waiting for quiet a bit of time. this doesnt happen in other sites...also, i found THIS THREAD while surfing the SOH for d/l numbers for my files...how is it that sites like AvSim and SOH can pay for their bandwiths without putting commercial add's like we have? let alone pop-ups

maybe we should start something like Donationware...a Donationware of our own, to pay for SimV and do away with the annoying Sitepal talking banners, or pup-ups and what not.

now, is it me or the Forum rules are getting tighter? again i know this deals with bandwith and im not as regular as i used to be, but today i fouind my signature gone and a rather unfriendly message in its place-"Which part of 30kb limit for signature pictures caused confusion?"-...my signature had been there for ages and there had never been a problem with it...until now.

whenever i have an image deleted or something i find a message with a tone of arrogance and defiance (unless is by ozzy or Felix Grin) where my image was... i think which ever mod is doing this should re-think the message or in the case of signatures maybe send a warning notice by IM before deleting, and maybe being a little nicer about it.

how can be forum participation encouraged? as oftne i've seen my threads (speccially in the design forum) disappear with no answer but many views?

i guess that's my rant for today... Embarrassed Sad Cry

thanx for your patience  Lips Sealed

Felipe I'll address the picture issue. Yesterday morning I removed 22 oversized or linked images.
I've had quite a rant about this recently but people just don't want to listen. I've tried PM'ing people but they ignore it. So because my connection is rather slow I've found it a lot easier to spot the problems ('cos a thread takes ages to load up) so I've been enforcing policy rather harshly but then if people obeyed the site rules we wouldn't have these problems.
In the last month I've taken down approx. 150 images! Some from people who've been asked time and again, others from people who should know better as they've been here years.
The comment thing is the new method, it seems to be effective as then people know why their image is missing and can correct accordingly... believe me over 2 dozen resident members have been nailed!
It is nothing personal I promise and I'm sure you would have corrected it but just lately it seems a lot of people think we should be honoured to have them here and they can do what they like and balls to everyone. The truth is they should be honoured to be allowed to join such a great community as the one we've got here. So alas we're having to use the one-size-fits-all policy until further notice.... Sorry.

Those audible ads get deleted when they are found.

We use an ad agancy as I have had bad experiences with ads for FS payware stuff - folk not paying & being dishonest.

The ad agency we use stipulates no spyware in any ads. If one that contained spyware ever came to my attention I would remove it immediately.

The agency has around 200 advertisers with new ones coming on every day.  I try to remove audible ads as I find them. Overall they are one of the most reputable ad agencies on the web (Valueclick)

There is in fact an increase in content. I can see that by looking at the files folders - dates - & overall more is being added every month than ever before.

As for what if's & fictional stuff - well believe it or not people download that stuff as much as 'real' stuff.

allright, fair enough...thanx for clearing it up Smiley

still, pete, how about a donationware of our own? i mean we have some great people here... Alrot and Berserk right off the top of my head do awesome visual models, Microlight does great Flight Dynamics, Ozzy works FDE's as well (i remember the tluk hunter:P) and there are a few others that can do and un-do, myself included...i would be willing to donate some of my time and models to SimV...how does that sound?

It would be great to have a simviation special production section and I'd love to see a Virtual Airline here too.
It would be nice to see in the files made by Simviation contributors a special something. Maybe a simple jpeg pic with the Simviation motif bearing the designers name?

It would be a nice idea for SimV to be able to have it's own Donationware/Payware section where aircraft and stuff would be sold and produced by SimV members to fund the website. I know I would happily help out if I was any good at modelling and the likes. The thing is, how many designers would...

To be perfectly honest I think you're asking a lot. I don't think many people will be interested. The whole idea of donationware goes against the concept of freeware which is what this site has always been all about.

I agree With Hagar on the donationware stuff...

I do like the Idea of Simv specials however..

It will be hard to keep the exclusives exclusive to simv though...

you're right, so instead of exclusives we can have a downloads sub section... something, and rules for it too so not anything done by anyone can go in, i think just original models, or something like that...we have enough stuff to start it anyway counting Jesse's cars and ALROT's jets...

your asking few people, to give up alot of time they dont have to make a specific site feesable. These guys can only churn out a small number of quality pieces at a time, and to make a whole new section worth petes time, you need quite a lot. So I dont think it would work.
