I was just curious about how the member ratings are achieved?

Am I right in thinking resident is following 500 posts? Is there a level between resident and my current rating?

All the best

I think the number of posts required for each rating should be upped. Tenfold. Smiley

And how much berating should there be? Wink
Perhaps some more appropriate ratings names as well as more ratings. Maybe by military-style promotions; then we can be court-martialed, as well.
Grin ???
Please note, however, that I don't like the possibility that increasing the post requirement can increase the posts-just-for-post count-sake syndrome.

Oh yeah it sucks when people start posting just in order to increase their ammount of posts. However I don't know if the number of posts really means anything..... Ther will always be people that post more than others but all in all it doesn't mean anything. Some members here have 10000+ posts but you can't compare with others that have 2000, 3000 or even 4000 posts. Sure you know that someone who's got 200 posts is new here at SimV but what reaaly counts isn't the number of posts you make but what you write in them Wink.
All over the internet you can see that forums tend to hide their members' number of posts. And there's one great thing here at SimV which is that there isn't any forum where people post all kinds of stupidities just in order to increase their number of posts (certainly the reason why other forums hide the number of posts of their users). The only things that your number of posts show is, compared with your date of registration (I don't remember if you can see it on SimV Tongue), wether you're a very active member or not.

Just my thoughts on the topic Wink.

Cheers

I'm not a huge fan of the levels. Younger people may post for the rank and think it is a status symbol. Upping it would bring more tripe to the forums. Roll Eyes

I do like the post count though and like to know my figure. I'm not interested in anyone elses mind you.

Well, On the Alpha Bravo site (plug, plug, plug Tongue)

This is the way we do the Ranks.

Rank: New Guy- 0 posts

Rank: Apprentice- 50 posts

Rank: Cadet- 100 posts

Rank: Officer- 200 posts

Rank: Bravo Pilot- 300 posts

Rank: Alpha Pilot- 400 posts

Rank: Captain- 500 posts

Rank: Master- 650 posts

Rank: Overlord- 800 posts

Rank: Supreme General- 1,000 posts

Of course, for SimV you would want to increase the number of posts needed since it is a much bigger and more active forum. Maybe by two.

nay, i say it's fine, mabye add a 1,000 post count mark, but thats it. not to mention it's not worth changing at the moment because we'll be switching to a PHP forum.

but yeah, lol it would be nice to have 2 post counts, posts that matter, and others that ae useless Tongue

Too much obsessing over post counts.
I say we should take 'em out back and shoot them!
