I doubt FSX is the last version. With every new DX version that comes out and with the way technology is progressing [thank you Moore's Law] there is bound to be some new improvements that the next version of FS can exploit.

I think it'll depend on the quality of FSX. If it comes out as a really good sim, with great graphic capabilities, very few bugs, etc... we won't need another sim for many years whereas if nobody likes it FSXI will come out sooner than we think. However, it also depends on the improvements a new version could give the simmers. It's useless to think about a FSXI if it's more or less the same as FSX.

But to answer the original question, I think there will bne better graphisms, new planes, etc.... unless they think about something very inovative Roll Eyes.

I'm just thinking about it, it might seem absolutly stupid, but what if instead of FSXI Microsoft developped a game in which there's airplanes, helicopteres, but also cars, boats, sort of a global simulation game. The game would take something like 60GB on your HD, but wow, it'd be..... awesome? I know that you can't make a game with the same graphisms for cars and planes, because of the difference of speed, even the fastest computer wouldn't be able to run it...... but, weel that was just a crazy idea Tongue.

Cheers

Didn't we already achieve that in FS9? Grin Roll Eyes

Yeah but I mean with better graphisms, for exemple they could add realistic roads, more realistic water, real harbours and so on.

Microsoft has already stated there will not be another FS release however it is based on the market.

If FSX is a money maker you can bet your ass there will be another release.

they better not pull another CFS3, or they lose out to the most money profiting piece of software they have EVER sold.

it's also their longest line of products, and still is best selling, most award winning, etc...

I say give them the extra year. we hare still living with FS9, and the plethora of addons will definetly keep us going, even well into FSX.not to mention this gives them time to perfect a working model, and the small details that will really make this one soar.

lol.

But seriously who cares? FSX is still like 3 months away and we're already dreaming about FS11?

But since we're already on the topic.... yes i'm 100% sure there's gonna be an FS11. Why not? I think alot of people who have never played the MSFS series are gonna pick up FSX with all the missions and stuff. The FS fanbase gets bigger every day. Why stop now?

I have seen and heard in the videos and press releases the word "culmination" mentioned many times. Here is the dictionary definition

culmination

noun
The highest or climactic point of something, especially as attained after a long time: the deal marked the culmination of years of negotiation.

So, I am of the opinion that FSX will be the last!!!

Ah, but with every climax, there is a resolution.

So the resolution will be ending, or in this case FS11. You can't just end the adventure at the climax. There has to be and end.

as technology improves... we will improve our games as well...

we have adressed some big issues in this forum, like hard drive space and computer power...

as the world becomes more connected through internet and such, i believe that fs11 will also be based on the internet... all you need are the aircraft and basic software, and all the other files will be based on the net...

just an idea...

So, instead of everyone having their own "stand alone" PC's as of now we will all become workstations of M(qualcosa)s
Wouldn't they just love that. And, they would do it if they could!!!!

A workstation would mean that every process would be launched on M$ servers.
This would not be the case, this would even be useless.
the only point stated before was that instead of shipping tons of DVDs to the customers, M$ would only ship a single CD containing the main application basis, and the very heavy data like terrain could be read "on demand" from their servers.

Sure M$ would be happy about this solution, since it would give some serious trouble to pirates (nothing to crack, since there would be nothing to copy).

Anyway, there's nothing to worry about. Such a solutin is simply impossible nowadays, and still won't be possible for several years.

The solution whereby we would all become workstations of M(qualcosa)s  will never be allowed here in Europe. The idea of having to log onto their site in order to download code, in ordere to allow them to clandestinely interrogate our pc's NO!!

Sure it would be allowed. Why not ? Some application already use that, just like your FS9 already reads Jepesen meteo data, or your GPS software reads trafic data, etc...
PS: forgot to mention the most obvious example: google earth.

I THINK there will be another FS, but maybe not till 2009 or something.

FsX LOOKS like it's designed to last as it is already decided it will have DX10 support when Vista ships or there abouts.

These that you have quoted are different!
What would NOT be allowed would be having to effectively "log on" in order to activate an operating system. In other words your PC would be acting as if it were a workstation.

Hmmm... sorry I think I don't really understand what you mean.
What about MMORPG players, that cannot play without being looged on a registered account ? This account is created via a unique identification on the software maker's side. Ok there's no download there, but basically it is the same problem, the software would not work without loggin ?
Or am I wrong ???

Lets stop going 'but this', 'but what about'...

The whole idea about everyone having to login to a MS server for terrain data and stuff is too complicated.  It can be done, but it simply isn't practical.  Plus, there would probably some law-suits in other countries (esp. Europe) against MS claiming globalization (even tho every company/government/etc. are trying to do that anyway)
(they managed to make the euro currency didn't they?)

But like I said, too complicated and impractical.

...&&FS Water Configurator+ has new modifications in the works, plus DirectX 10, Service Pack&&1, and Radeon HD 3+ Series support.
