If you are already infected there may be no way to help.

NOD32 is the best AV on the market. It is payware but it DOES allow 30 days of 100% free use. I would install NOD32 and run a full system scan.

If you backup all your documents etc...

and then would a system restore solve the problem?

Not a good idea where a virus is concerned. The system may make a backup of the virus.

Sounds like someone needs a reformatt.

Couple pieces of info though.
1: McAfee Virus Scan + McAfee Firewall + Spysweeper = awesome protection. You don't need anything else if you have that. Your virtually a Mac.

2: System restore only rolls back any programs installed. So if you have a virus then it gets rolled back with the rest of your computer.

Cheers

Well I had a System restore program that came with my PC and It dint do it the windows way it was to roll it back to how it was, and install windows again off the hardrive and every thing was how it was when I got it no programs (that I've had installed) no documents,.... Capt.f if you built your computer I may not come with this but, If its like a Sony or HP or Dell or something it may has this program, If it does it would be in the software manual.

BUT I dont know if it will get rid of any viruses (will it?)

Well that sounds alot like a recovery disk. It will get rid of Virus, but if your rolling back to day one with just the OS and drivers and nothing else, it would almost just be better to get a XP disk, and do a full reformat. At least that way, you get rid of all that OEM bulkware that they put on.

Yea, Bulkware is any software that comes with other software that companys think you want, when you actually don't. Thats why I tell people to throw out those OEM disks, and get an actual XP CD.

Sorry to say, but I don't even think its worth trying to recover the system. Just grab your music, text docs, and pictures and reformat the thing. Then when you reformat make sure to install a good anti virus, a good firewall, and a good anti spyware.

I suggest :
McAfee Virus Scan
McAfee Firewall Pro
Webroot SpySweeper.

Cheers
