On the subject of Channel crossings, David Walliams wasn't the only person to cross it last month - the first radio controlled
Electric
aircraft crossing was performed by an electric Tucano. Didn't see it reported in the main press, but I expect it'll be in next months model mags...

That wasn't the first successful flight even if the mission wasn't successful: in 1588, sure of a great victory against the English, a Spanish spotter desired to observe the entire scene in the crow's nest, in which he'd stored ample quantities of rum. He didn't even make it out of port when he flipped over the side but caught hold of the mast rigging, hanging in the breeze for dear life. By journey's end, he was still flying at half mast.
Of course, I can't substantiate that story... but birds have been flying across the channel for eons just to annoy the inhabitants with their crap!

The French had many points of view that day, mostly English; again, they'd failed to comprehend the situation beforehand and got rather bogged down.
