I remember seeing a low-speed fly by, then suddenly the pilot flipped the plane up and hung on it's tail being kept aloft just on thrust alone, then began building speed as it went vertical.  Awesome!   Grin Grin Grin

The 9 Lighnings of the Firebirds opened their display with a formation take off, rapidly raising the wheels before doing a vertical climb to 5,000 feet. The only example of sheer power I've seen that comes anywhere close to that is the Avro Vulcan in an almost vertical climb at the end of every display. The noise was incredible & it literally shook the ground and every fibre of your body. That usually ended the show as it was an impossible act to follow. The Vulcan was an air show favourite for many years. Along with many others I hope to see it again some day.

For pure skill & entertainment value I still prefer the slower formation aerobatic teams.
