yeah scratch that post. i want the freaking aero glass enabled. appearantly my computer gets a performance rating of 1. you need at least a 3 to run aero glass.

im still getting video problems... i had 2 conflicting video drivers. i disable both, and vista is beautiful, but if i enable one of them, bam, same story, video problem.

just as i was about to hand it a silver platter, i get the shotgun instead!

Lol, after our 3 hour phone conversation, I should hope something good came out of that. Also good to see that you chose newegg for all of your MS needs Wink

But on a more serious note, you got a 3? I'm running a 4 and the only thing holding me back is my processer (not dual core) and my HDDs (vista dosn't like my lac of space).

Cheers

Well now that I'm in Vista, and just completed a system scan I find that its not as shamful as I would like. Stuped HDD is still keeping me down. Mabe I should just break down and grab the 200GB from work.

Anyway

Processer: Intel P4 3.4Ghz = 4.3
RAM: 2GB = 4.6
Primary HDD: 11.52GB Free (74.53 Total) = 4
Graphics: ATI Radeon X800XL 5.9
Gaming Graphics: 256MB 5.2

Overall score : 4.8

So basically if I were to replace my D drive with a 200GB one, I would be sitting on a 5. However I have the feeling that MS will be releasing updates to the system scan as time passes, because eventually everyone will be running a 4~6 system, and us gamers will be maxing out even with the lowest end gaming system.

Cheers

and? why am i put to shame? now that i have 64 bit installed, my rating went up a bit...

latest scores

CPU: 3.7
RAM: 3.1
HDD: 3.4
GFX: 4.3
GAG: 3.7

it went up slightly in CPU and definetly in RAM. im still a 3, precise score is a 3.6, i think thats pretty good for my system.

my HDD rating would've gone wayy up had i not installed on my boot IDE an installed it on my boot SATA. oh well...

oh and im planning on another 300Gb SATA/150 (mobo doesn't support 300, and it's cheaper).

Smileyramos

ps:im jokin, i havent even 1/4 filled my 250gb Tongue

SATA 3 and SATA 1.5 are the same thing Wink Transfer rate on the 3 is just faster. So if you can do 1.5 you can do 3.

my mobo maunal says i can only support sata 1.5. remember we're talking Gigabyte, who links the PCI with the CPU clock. ??? Roll Eyes

yes, all it means is im going to get sata3, and lose the transfer speed to 1.5, a bit of a waste of money, since sata3 is the better standard, current drives can be easier to find.

Idk I didn't have that problem.

However is it odd that we are posting on a hardware forum at 3:40am?

im currently downloading vista, i have 2 harddrives. one 80gig and one 20 gig. i was going to reinstall xp on the 80gig and then vista on the 20gig. however.
due to this post and joyce saying that vista loves space. would i be better of putting vista on the 80gig hdd and xp on the smaller 20gig???

that sounds about right. i await Xp, was gonna put that on my 30gb, i have vista on my 40gb, it originally took up 6gb, but then you tack on Aero glass, it jumped to 18gb.

and i use my 250gb for all my storage. it has 2 partitions, 200gb and 50gb. i planned for vista on the 50gb, a logical partition. vista wasn't happy, and my trial of XP pro x64 ended, so i formatted by 40gb for vista.

im also trying to get 98 running for some older games. but i have to uninstall vista...again....
