thats what you think... It just hasnt been implemented in a wide scale home user setting.

many corporate networks are switching to IPv6. just think, with IPv6 implemeted with all 6 billion people here, each person gets 63 million IP addresses. it will be a success, since it already is.

again thank you cisco class.

How does this IPv6 work anyways? Is there an article that can describe this?

this is the wikipedia article, and it is closesly tied to the Cisco Academy lessons I learned. this information is accurate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6

but to the normal person, this is all you need to know

IPv6 addresses are normally written as eight groups of four hexadecimal digits. For example, 2001:0db8:85a3:08d3:1319:8a2e:0370:7334 is a valid IPv6 address.

If a four-digit group is 0000, the zeros may be omitted. For example, 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:1319:8a2e:0370:7344 can be shortened as 2001:0db8:85a3::1319:8a2e:0370:7344. Following this rule, any group of consecutive 0000 groups may be reduced to two colons, as long as there is only one double colon used in an address. Thus, the addresses below are all valid and equivalent:

2001:0db8:0000:0000:0000:0000:1428:57ab
2001:0db8:0000:0000:0000::1428:57ab
2001:0db8:0:0:0:0:1428:57ab
2001:0db8:0::0:1428:57ab
2001:0db8::1428:57ab

Either I misread it or the article doesn't mention the uses that this IPv6 has in an online session such as multiplayer.

Will it allow more people to play in a single session compared to being limited to about 16-32 players?

this is what im trying to get at. if it can be incorporated in a large scale business situation (ie: Cisco) then surely Multiplayer gaming should be a sinch.

This is why i brought it up, in case the microsoft eyes are watching here Wink

the problem is that IPv6 isn't supported by many home routers, I doubt m$ wishes to pointlessly cut off a large market just because they fear a shortage of Ip addresses.

no way would microsoft cut off IPv4, it's too established. but im saying we could intergrate the two, cause the transition between IPv4 & IPv6 is already going on. Comcast is providing IPv6 addresses, and im looking for one. Macs come IPv6 ready, so im good there. but im most concerned about multiplayer games, cause they cant support IPv6.
