For all of us wanting what is supposed to be a huge step forward in graphics processing, get ready to buy Vista and start over.  Appears that XP will not support DX10 because it is built deep within the new Vista platform.  MS has perfected the art of having us upgrade!  Todd

Its not FSX and XP that we are concerned about, its DX10, the latest step in graphics rendering.  It is supposed to be light years ahead of DX9 and only Vista will support it.  Which means a new operating system and video card will be needed to get the most out of the new sim. Todd

MAC is good if you have loads of money and mind buying a whole system every 2 or 3 years instead of just upgrading evry 12 months. I work with macs at college in Logic. I do realize how good Macs are for this kind of work, I mean, very specific technical work and more. I would love to be able to have a mac just to work with logic, but as I don't have money to buy two diferent computers I have, unfortunately, to opt for the more versatile PC platform...

Also, the thing with dx10 is not like it is a big surprise. At one point the OS would have to change drastically to accomodate the new technologies and all the advances that happened since XP came out.

If M$ tried to do a XP dx10 compatible OS it would probably have much more bugs than a new OS built especially to work with dx10 (among other stuff) like Vista.

I know it's hard to know that we will have to spend lot's of money in 2007 if we want to keep up with FS, but that is the cost of faster and faster advances in computers.

This is so certain that it just becomes irrelevant...I mean, it's just the way it is. If you want new technology you will allways have to pay more for it. But I can assure you that after you spend the money and start for the 1st time FSX in a good system DX10 prepared, you'll forget the money you just spent...hehe

I'll probably buy the fsx for XP for now, and keep it for the first months and try to save money to buy a new system...

hehe...kind of....

I mean, of course he is the owner of the company making us spend all this money, but if you think about it, FS series has ALL the world, with LOTS of a/c, a platform that allows you to simulate a REAL airliner ops, and much more...50$ for it ain't that much, also, you only buy one OS every 4 years or so, probably 5, so not too bad...

In the end, he's  there to make money, but I don't agree with people making Bill Gates the bad guy only! Yes, he might have made A HUGE amount of money with us consumers, but he also contributed to one of the biggest and fastest evolutions computer wise...

We can't close the eyes to the past and only see Bill Gates the multimultimultimultimulti millionare. We have to remember the young lad that created the basis for home computer to expand and become something that we can use daily, with almost everything we can think of, and if you take it into account, not that expensive...I mean, if cars followed the prices evolutions of PC's (and macs) you would probably buy a rolls royce for less than 100$...

Anyways, I don't work at microsoft, nor am I family of Bill, I just think that we can't become too extreme when we think of microsoft.

Yes, he is making us spend money, but he also gave us a revolution in home computers...

cheers

Well, as far as the home user and even some businesses, Mr. Gates isn't making anybody spend money. You do it willingly because you feel you have to have the latest and greatest.  Grin
I'm only up to a P-III 866MHz system, and only because it was given to me due to it having a bad HDD that the owner didn't want to mess with. My main system is a lowly P-II 350MHz. I'm quite happy living in the Windows 98se world.  Grin

You can now run an emulator on most MAC's, allowing you to run windows based progs.

A well prepared Quad G5 will dick all over any PC. If you are like me you won't mind shelling out Ł2500+ and running your original XP, thereby denying M$ a further sale and enjoying mind blowing graphics.

Interesting to note, while a top range MAC will set you back quite a few bucks actually the price of DLP video projectors has fallen quite a lot and is now viable for flight simming. These two make a very good set up for simulation/gaming etc.

Wow... rather sweeping and inclusive stereotyping.

What do you base this judgement upon?

True.

But this is one of the few cases when a stereotype is not a generalization.

I base my judgement upon the fact that any and each man or woman that was able to make money... a LOT of money... from nothing has alway an army of skeletons in the closet.

also I base my judgemente upo the fact that any rich man or woman (but in this case I put into those that are rich from generations too) would be more than ready to fill another army of closets with an army of skeletons each to keep whatever little power (and money is the only form of acquired power a human can wield) they possess and possibily make it greater.

One might not think it's like this. It's part of their personal freedom, and as such I'm not going to dispute it. Everyone is free to believe in honest riches, if they want.

And in Santa Claus as well.

Right Katahu.  According to this theory, EVERY person who gets rich either is dishonest before they start or becomes that way in the process......but is always dishonest by the time they are rich.

It is amazing how universal it is.

So it is inevitable....... just give up and give in to your inner dishonest person.   Wink   Roll Eyes
