Ok, Im going to get alot of crap from this but other than the eye candy, no one from MS has mentioned anything about the new sim functions.  Eye candy is great, but after we have saved the guys on the rig, will you fly the mission again?  After we have seen the birds and the elephants, will we continue to fly around trying to see them?  I guess what Im getting at here is that the eye candy is great, but what about the core sim? I am really hoping for a major improvement in the weather, ATC, airport operations, and flight dynamics.  I am sure they will be better, but if they arent improved much, will this sim hold my attention more than 2004.  It  is interesting to note how my simming has change as I have learned more about flying.  When I started I flew around looking at all the buildings and did stunts and such and didnt worry about the fuel and the mixture and ILS.  Now that I have more experience I enjoy planning a flight from start up to touch down and trying to overcome weather and other obstacles.  Thats why I am hoping that the core sim undergoes a major upgrade.  I guess MS has its work cut out because there are just as many of you whom  prefer to fly VFR and plan your route that way while enjoying the scenery.  It will be interesting to see what "other" changes to the sim are annouced in the upcoming months.  My two cents on the subject.  Todd

You're right in terms of the flight sim engine. But you have to remember that just like any other company competing in the market, M$ won't show "all" the details so that their corporate rivals won't be able to know the true details until the very moment the sim is released. That's just the way it is in Corporate America.

So now it's official that there WILL BE  animals (the elephants in this case) running around freely!!!

I also am impressed with the moving carts at the airprort!!!

I really like the Reno racing (I assume) scenery they included.

Ken Shockly and crew were at the Lumberton Airshow here in NC this past weekend. I've seen him and Shockwave a dozen times and it keeps getting cooler everytime I see him. Great video clip. Can't wait to get my hands on the real deal when it's released Wink

And they had "Shockwave"!!!!!(the jet truck for you that haven't heard of them) Racing against an Extra 300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Todd... it's a marketing movie... it has to be flashy and attractive! Surely MS won't go shouting about new complex pro-simmer stuff. They want to attract as many new people to the sim as possible.

However, together with you, I hope they'll incorporate many new and exciting possibilities simulation-wise. To make it ever so realistic as possible...

Fingers crossed!  Wink

That video was absolutely stunning. It really did impress me. FSX looks just as good as I thought it would. The appearance of Shockwave (the truck) made it seem all the more wonderful. FSX is really looking like it's going to be pretty damned awesome.

And yet, chances are I won't be buying it... Sad

Anybody had a look to the Fsinsider FSX fact sheet ?
http://www.fsinsider.com/product/FSX_fact_sheet.htm

some points:
Connected world. Through increased online gameplay capabilities, Flight Simulator X offers players a connected world where they can choose whom they want to be, from an air-traffic controller, pilot, or co-pilot as they interact with other aviators from around the globe by chatting in real time via headset and keyboard.
Interactive airports. More than 24,000 airports feature artificial intelligence-controlled jetways, fuel trucks, and moving baggage carts, allowing players to explore their hometown or venture to a favorite far-off city.

Nothing very precise of course, but anyway this is already very interesting I think Smiley Looks like we will finally have some life in the airports, as well as an IVAO-like network.

Daube,

In fairness, I beleive that Cavity (Todd) posted that comment before the factsheet was releaased on the FSInsider page.

That "factsheet" does list some intriging changes.  So they seem to be working on both ends of the spectrum...... "gaming" and "simulation".

Up until that sheet...... the focus of communication on the upcoming release seemed to be more on eye candy and gaming.  And even now they still use the word "game' and "gaming" a lot.  Obviously it's "market positioning".... but if they position it that way.... real gamers will not be "fooled" unless is has been "tweeked" a bunch to appeal top them.

best,
