On the panel shown below, I am researching exactly what the two, three-position switches I have circled in red actually do.  I am working on wiring up my physical panel in the simpit, and I need to know a bit more about the function of these two switches.

Obviously the "off" position is self explanitory ..... Wink..... and I know what VOR and ADF mean.  But why are there "left" and "right" switches, and what function happens when each is on the "adf" or "vor" position?

Can anyone explain the function of these switches in some detail?  Thanks.

PS:  Couldn't decide between the "Real" flying forum and this one for this question.  But since in the sim, there are only certain functions actually available, I decided that I needed to know what they do in the sim.  I am guessing real life could vary a bit (maybe not).

Just guessing, but I'd say it's nav source select for pilot/copilot.

I can't understand the centre off position...unless it's used to declutter an EFIS display by removing the associated needle display. That would allow the pilots to listen to radio on the adf without cluttering the HSI.

If one juxtaposes 1 for L and 2 for R it makes more sense.

Well, those are options for allowing the VOR1 or VOR2 to be switched during NAV options and so on to be displayed on a effis panel (or glass cockpit). They normally show up on the HSI, and you can select when flying NAV to switch the VOR offten as possible whenever you cross a VOR, switch to the next one etc.. Grin
