I believe that in that thread you are refering to he was joking, calm down!

Haven't YOU got anything better to do but put this post up in full caps screaming your views at people?

If you think it's ok for people to not bother to give the rules (and therefore the contest itself) any respect then I don't know why we should bother with it at all. The level of ineligable entries this month seems to be way higher than usual this month for some reason. Some of us who spent a lot of time and attention not only on the shot but on keeping within the rules are getting tired of it.

THE RULES

Here are the rules...  Any questions or comments should be directed to a judge and will be answered at the earliest available opportunity.  Any contestant judged to have violated these rules will have his entry removed and be disqualified.
Please start a thread for your entries for each member...
Most of all, HAVE FUN!

Contest starts April 10, 2006
and ends May 5, 2006.

1. This contest will run from April 10, 2006 until May 5, 2006. Entries submitted after Midnight on May 5, 2006 EST will not be accepted.  Judging will occur after May 5, 2006 and the 8 Finalists will be entered into the POLL that will be posted soon after! Now the Members will cast their vote in the Poll to determine this month's winner!

2. Open only to SimV forum members registered before April 10, 2006.  This is to prohibit registering multiple user names to allow more entries. It is also enforced to keep people who are not regulars at this forum, from joining just to try to win the monthly prize!  Sorry and better luck next time!

3. All images Must BE 800 WIDE and NOT SMALLER THAN 600 HIGH!!
Since many machines run at higher resolutions, the 600 high rule has been eliminated! However, Your image may not be smaller than 800 X 600!
Example: A machine running at 1280X1024 will give you an image of 800X640 when reduced which is perfectly acceptable!
No cropping, editing or adjusting your shot!! Any images over 100 kb in weight, and being smaller than 800 wide and 600 high will not be VALID!  This rule is now being enforced since This is a Screenshot Contest and we "want to see the RAW shot!" All entries must be uploaded to SimV.

***No linking to other sites is allowed and is STRICTLY ENFORCED!!***

YOU CAN ONLY USE A FREEWARE SCREENSHOT CAPTURE PROGRAM!
Active Camera, Walk & Follow are NOT allowed!!

***

4. ONLY ONE ENTRY PER MEMBER!  Each contestant must start their own thread in the Screenshot Contest forum with their shot! Your entry must be included in this thread.

5. Screenshots from FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, CFS series only please!!

6. Once an entry is submitted, it may not be withdrawn.  This is to keep the confusion to a minimum, and to maintain forum integrity.  Entries may be withdrawn from the contest, but no additional entries from that member will be accepted.

7. Entries may be of freeware aircraft and scenery only! This keeps the playing field even!

8. Entries may not be edited in any way.  Any entry discovered to have been edited will be disqualified and the image removed from the contest.

9. All images must be produced specifically with the intent of entering them in this contest.  No screenshots previously posted images or pre-contest images will be accepted.

10. After the contest has ended and the judges have decided on the "Finalists", a "POLL" type thread will be started entitled, "Screenshot Finalists, Vote Now!" It will explain that the Poll will be closed within 48 hours. You must note the Post Time of this thread to know when it will close! This will allow the members to now vote for their favorite shot from the ones the judges have picked!

11. After 48 hours from the time the Finalist Announcement is made, the POLL will be closed and the Winner announced!

A REQUEST
We would like to ask the Author of each screenshot, to please supply us with the name & designer of the Aircraft in your post. So many people always ask "what aircraft is that", and We think it would be very informative for many of us if it were right there under the shot!
Thanks...

Good Luck to All and Thanks for playing!

It is the people that are nitpicking the GOOD shots. If you break the rules or dont follow fine, but STOP NITPICKING THE ONES THAT ARE TRYING, I mean look at some of the comments made on good shots...you shoould have tried this, or its too dark for me, or I dont like the scernery in the background. That it why I feel the shots should be LOCKED as soon as they are posted

I dont see a joke in there!

Good point.
I get it every month because the default colour settings and textures are just too grey and misty.
I've changed all my settings and downloaded loads of effects, textures etc.

A fair point, but say somebody's shot was too bright, and nobody said "this is too bright", wouldn't they just continue to post bright shots? And how would they learn that their shots are too bright if nobody told them? Wink

Bingo ^, if people don't point out the little things, like AA or lighting, then how do the people learn to better themselves? I didn't even know what AA was until someone told me that I might try turning it on to make shots look better. And now look at mine! I owe what little tallent I have to the people that nitpicked my old shots.

Deep breath . . . DEEEEEP breath . . .

Now, exhale . . .

There, now.  Don't we feel better? Smiley

No need to go storming and screaming about.  Its just a spot of fun in a forum full of it.  Don't take ANYTHING around here seriously, or you'll be up to your snuffer in mental blockage for all eternity.

Do comments on these boards really make all that much difference to you?  Try reading each and every one as though it were said with a big friendly smile on its face!  Makes the world so much more fun to be in, don't you think?

And, as an adendum:

Perhaps all the hyped-up spirits on this forum is because of the prize being offered.  When someone sees something that is actually worth money/time/effort, etc for free, they tend to get a little excited, and much more competitive.

So perhaps giving these amazing awards out for free on these contests is not such a great idea.  There should still be SOME sort of prize, I agree.  After all, that's kinda the point of a contest: get something for your work and time.  But I think perhaps we are setting too big a stake in this thing.  What about some type of UNIQUE prize.  Say, a repaint of a very nice (freeware) aircraft that is given exclusively to the winner(s) and no one else.

That way, they can post the shots on the freeware board any time they want, just to gloat.

I really like that idea . . . competitive, but not monetarilly (sp?) so.

Good Day. Smiley

Wow. I suppose you're one of these who hates criticism of his own shots? That IS constructive criticism. Saying "lol that shot is crap!!!!" is NOT.

For example: "Too dark for me" -  'Next time, choose a well/better lit area'

And yes, your avatar is over the limit. You obviously aren't one of the ones who's trying. Smiley

MAkes no diefference. Someone is still "nit-picking" (as you put it), only you don't know about it. When push comes to shove, the person is still saying what they may have said in a post, only in a PM. Wink

My only bug is the people that don't read the rules and the ones who wait right up until the end of the competition because they need ideas from other members  Tongue You'll find a lot similar pics in a few weeks, it always happens.

A lot of the time, you can tell who is in it for the fun, and who is in it for the prize. Wink I've actually seen people explicitly say that they 'needed' the prize in question, or that they must win it.

TBH, this month, I'm not all that interested in the prize, as with last months. But I suppose, if I ever won one of the prizes (yeah, right Grin) it would be more of an 'I've earnt it, so I might aswell use it' kind of thing.
