Perhaps all the hyped-up spirits on this forum is because of the prize being offered. When someone sees something that is actually worth money/time/effort, etc for free, they tend to get a little excited, and much more competitive.
So perhaps giving these amazing awards out for free on these contests is not such a great idea. There should still be SOME sort of prize, I agree. After all, that's kinda the point of a contest: get something for your work and time. But I think perhaps we are setting too big a stake in this thing. What about some type of UNIQUE prize. Say, a repaint of a very nice (freeware) aircraft that is given exclusively to the winner(s) and no one else.
A lot of the time, you can tell who is in it for the fun, and who is in it for the prize.
I've actually seen people explicitly say that they 'needed' the prize in question, or that they must win it.
TBH, this month, I'm not all that interested in the prize, as with last months. But I suppose, if I ever won one of the prizes (yeah, right
) it would be more of an 'I've earnt it, so I might aswell use it' kind of thing.
