Allowed to take more risks more like. The Red Arrows go hellish low when they bend the rules (flying over water for example) so god knows what they'd get up to if the rules allowed that sort of behaviour.

They used too... I'm sure a quick search for Ray Hanna and Gnat in google would come up with the goods...
Also Ormond Hayden-Baillie may produce interesting results...

There's a similar one of Ormond Hayden-Baillie doing the same thing in his T-33 in the 70's, except it was head on!

Somehow I think that last shot was taken with a cable release rather than the photographer actually being there with cam in hand (either that or hes astonishingly brave!) Awesome!
