Source is no match for CS 1.6 (or any earlier version). The whole feel of the game is lost. It feels too much like Half-Life 2 than Counter-Strike (yes, I know it's based on the HL2 engine, but the original versions of CS didn't feel like you were playing Half-Life).

Funny, I thought the exact opposite: Counter Strike: Source and Half Life 2 felt unique, whereas Half Life and Counter Strike felt the same.  Go figure! Wink

I used to play CS several nights a week with a bunch of cops in Florida..  We started on 1.5... and CS source was the last version we played. Then one of them tried DOD Source and we haven't gone back. Cheating is VERY rare in DOD Source. That was CS (all versions) biggest downfall.

Well, CS:S is a pretty good game to relax and have fun with friends but the gameplay is totally incompatible with high-level and tournament matches.

The closer to reality not always the better for e-sport and h/c gaming...

Oh god you got me to talk about my love.

CSS !!!!!  8) Grin I play almost 24/7 on the Noob Galor Office server. CTJoyce is my handle, and youll find me on T rushing the garage with a Sig 552, and dualies.

Anyway now time for the flaming. CS 1.6 gamers, please go die. I'm sick of listening to you guys whine about how steam cut your support, and how you just need one more patch, and the game will be complete. Well they made a patch, its called CS:S. Wake up and smell the n00b stick.

@FF are you on crack? CS:S is just as good as UT BF and Warcraft for high end tournies. If you would bothar to look you will find that most high end, and even low end LAN tournies are played 8 v 8. The perfect number of players for any map. Its when you start getting this 32 v 32 crap that goes on online that it gets cramped and becomes a head shot fest.

Cheers
Cameron

1. I think I'll stay alive, thanks.
2. Not every CS 1.6 gamer complains about it. I for one don't.
3. CS:S is hardly much of a patch of 1.6. Gameplay is completely different. The only HL2 mod that has the same gameplay as the original, is DoD:Source. Even then, it's hardly an improvement over the original. Fancier graphics and a realistic physics engine. That's never what the Half Life series has been about (or at least the main mods stemming from it). It only worked for HL2 itself.

And anyone who says that CS:S plays like 1.6 (or <1.5) either has a top notch system, able to run it at 100+fps, or is lying. I don't see the point in forking out for a complete revamp of my system, when I could be playing 1.6, IMO, the better game.

Quite appropriate really that I played 1.6 for the first time in a while, not half an hour ago.

Do I play CSS?........................Join us for a friendly match or stop by the forums at www.clanxtc.net. My call sign is [XTC]Thorne. A forum and server admin. I also sit on the council with a few others. We have been playing since CS first inception. We've been around quite awhile. Although lately all I do is fly. We play BF2 as well but we are only paying for a dedicated CS server right now. Drop on by for a Frag or two (clips)  Grin Wink
