The F-14 has made its final flight and gets a much deserved rest. Read it here

Well they closed the book on another, and in a few more years we should see the F-15C and F-15E come to the same fate.

This was rather sudden.  So it's really retired; the F-14 is no more?

Well then, I say shucks.

I suppose it's time to usher in the JSF.

Probably a move called Top Gun

By the way, I've heard that every 3 hours of flight was 5 hours of maintenance...they really weren't the top bird in the AF...

Yep making room for the JSF, from what I got from a Marine recruiter the Harrier is on its way out also, was intrested in the Marines till they told me no more harriers in a few years. Really kinda sad, now I'll have to find a way to buy one.

The Tomcat requires nearly 50 maintenance hours for every flight hour!

Also, it's not an AF (Air Force) bird, it's a navy! Wink

Sad to see it go... Sad

An American chappie has just bought a former Royal Navy Sea Harrier and intend to fly it on the US show circuit... As for the Harrier, I expect with the inevitable JSF delays it'll be around for the best part of 10 years yet...

Hi Bman, were you invited to any ceremony with your history with the aircraft?

It'll be a long time before they create another plane with that much character and presence.  Neither the Hornet nor JSF have anything like it.

Yes, however it was posted in a somewhat unnecissarily obnoxious way.  To a lot of people, this is literally like a death in the family.

Sad Sad Sad Sad
Very sad, i loved that plane, remember watching TopGun almost everyday after school daydreaming about one day flying that plane. It is and will always remain on my top 3 fav planes of all time lists.
