Why are so many Russian aircraft cockpits painted in turquoise green? I've read somwehere that the green colour is meant to relax the pilots. Can anyone confirm this?

I would think that quite likely. Green was always considered a relaxing colour. Until quite recently the cockpit interior of most British aircraft was painted light green. 'Cockpit Green' paint is still available for use on vintage types.
Best example I can find at short notice.
When I was younger many official buildings like schools & hospitals also had their interior walls painted green for the same reason.

Yeah they say so.. but Ilyushin has a more blueish color (as does the Tu-204 and Tu-334) and the an-24 has a black panel
Anyway... if you look closely, none of them has the same color green
Russian planes:
IL-76 (all standard length ones)
,
Tu-154 and Il-62
,
Tu-134
and
An-24RV

The Spit had a green cockpit!
Agreed most of the Russian stuff had a sort of turquoise colour! Yuk
As for the why? I think someone in the Politburo must have had a brother who run a factory that only made "shades of green" paint
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

For spin recovery there is a 'point to here' line

I think the main reason is the dominance of zinc chromate for priming aluminum parts on aircraft... many interiors never receive a finish coat in some other color, but get that green stuff painted on to inhibit corrosion.

Rottydaddy hit the nail on the head. Zinc Chromate is a primer for aluminum and steel. Its almost always that shade of green. Most older aircraft only had the zinc chromate on the interior. Usaully the parts were painted with the chromate prior to assmebly and that was it.
