I know it sounds funny, but i want to improve preformace, i have legal copies of all MS operation systems except the NT4 and under stuff, and Windows 2.03 and under. I wanted to know what version would produce the best results for simming on older hardware. I'm torn between 98/me/2000pro. Any help would be great.

Cameron not to make you sound stupid with your last post but fs 2004 system specs are this

Microsoft® Windows® 98/Me/XP/2000
PC with 450 MHz equivalent or higher processor
128 MB of system RAM for 2000/XP, 64 MB RAM for 98/Me
1.8 GB available hard disk space
4x speed or faster CD-ROM drive
8 MB video card required
Sound card, speakers or headphones required for audio
Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
56.6 Kbps or better modem for online play

acoording to that I can play on Windows 98 original.

Stick with 98. ME is still buggy. 98 is probably your best bet.

2000pro would be my choice, then 98. 2000, with the service packs, is a decent stable OS with plenty of advanced configurability, on par with XP without the pretty GUI.

ME is not worth using as a coaster.

I never ran WinME on my system, but from what I saw, it looked like Win98 with a new interface, and I thought Win98 was full of bugs Roll Eyes

Well they both crash but actully me crashs less than 98. Me has matured alot in the last 5 years. The big problem was most ppl just installing it over 98 and using there old drivers. I find a clean install of Me with driver written for me specficlly really help make it a good os.

Ive got Win XP Pro installed on my C drive for all the new "stuff"....
...and Win '98 SE installed on my F drive for all my lovely old "stuff"... Grin...!

Never had any problems with Win '98 SE, and I quite liked it when it was my main operating system for years...A very uncomplicated program... and generally virus-free... Wink...!

...even my Win XP desktop/files/folders/icons/etc, are displayed in Classic Win '98 SE mode... fond memories... Wink... Grin...!

LOL...!

Ok in Me i actully loose FPS, so that didn't help, guess ill just install Windows 2000 and download the service packs. Yes thats right I have 2000 Pro before the service packs.

Is there anyway to make FS98 look really good, i know it cant look like FS2004 but what about like CFS2? I get really good frame rates in CFS2 with settings at max at 10x7

Ya the frame drop wasn't a supprise. Anyway due to the way the FS98 was written there is pretty much no way that I know of to get it to look much better than it already does. Its problem is the older DX virsion. Your problem with downgradeing was that FS9 didn't have all the shiny resources that XP does for the sim to utilise.

Cheers
